VIMC celebrates 30 years of success: restructuring for new horizons!

On May 10, 2025, Vietnam Maritime Corporation (VIMC) was awarded the Second Class Labor Medal to mark its 30th anniversary. Over the past three decades, the organization has overcome both financial difficulties and internal doubts. Le Anh Son, CEO of VIMC, emphasized that they never gave up in times of crisis. Instead, a comprehensive restructuring has been initiated, focusing on streamlining the apparatus, restructuring finances and renewing the business model and management methods.

One notable move was the 2021 conference, which was attended by nearly 100 executives from 34 member companies. This meeting resulted in the so-called Dai-Lai Declaration, which reaffirms VIMC's development plan to 2025 and vision to 2030. The focus is on customer-oriented approaches. Over the past five years, VIMC has achieved a total profit of over VND15 trillion and manages more than 16 major seaports, achieving a market share of nearly 30% in Vietnam's seaport system.

Importance of corporate culture

VIMC management considers corporate culture as a crucial factor for development. In September 2024, a corporate culture assessment program was launched, supported by Blue C. The core values of this culture, captured in the Wealth from the Sea cultural handbook, include discipline, dedication, creativity, unity and integrity. These values are integrated into training, assessments, recruiting and the KPI system for managers.

Director General Nguyen Canh Tinh highlights the organization's strength and courage in difficult times. VIMC sees itself well positioned for future opportunities, both domestically and internationally, and anticipates new investment flows and the further development of the marine economy.

Cảng Cần Thơ and his role

Cảng Cần Thơ is located in the heart of the Mekong Delta region, which represents a significant consumer market with over 18 million inhabitants. The Vietnamese government has ambitious plans to expand Cảng Cần Thơ into the largest port in the Delta region. This port is classified as a national multi-purpose port and plays an important role in the national port development plan until 2020, with an outlook until 2030.

The port has a total length of quays of 667 m and a total area of around 30 hectares. The port's modern loading and storage facilities will enable an estimated cargo throughput of 10 million tonnes in 2020, with infrastructure providing container and shipping capacity of up to 20,000 DWT. With two subsidiaries, Cảng Hoàng Diệu and Cảng Cái Cui, Cảng Cần Thơ is well positioned to meet the growing demand in international trade.

By combining strategic management approaches and investment in infrastructure, VIMC is poised to play a leading role in Vietnam's port sector in the coming years. Further information about VIMC and Cảng Cần Thơ's operations is available online: Vietnam.vn and VIMC.
