Leipzig/Halle Airport is expanding its flight offerings and now offers new direct connections to Bulgaria. From now on, travelers from Leipzig/Halle can travel to the two Bulgarian cities of Varna and Burgas. SunExpress Airlines, in cooperation with Electra Airways, has introduced these new connections, which started on May 16 and 17, 2025. Up to 222 flights take off from Leipzig/Halle Airport every week, serving a total of 29 destinations in 13 countries.
Varna, known as Bulgaria's third largest city, is famous not only for its beautiful beaches but also for its rich history. The “Gold of Varna,” a Thracian jewelry that is over 6,000 years old, is just one of the highlights that visitors can admire in the city’s archaeological museum. Flight connections to Varna are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Diverse experiences in Burgas
Burgas, the second new destination, offers its guests a variety of cultural attractions. Particularly noteworthy is the imposing Cathedral of the Holy Brothers Kiril and Methodius, which impresses with its stained glass windows. The sea garden in Burgas also attracts with a wide promenade, a summer theater and a viewing platform on the pier.
Flights to Burgas depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Both destinations will be served by modern Airbus A320s during the summer months from May to September 2025. Travelers can conveniently book their flights via the SunExpress website or through travel agencies.
