A8 closure: 57 hour traffic jam alarm for Karlsruhe during the holidays!

The A8 will be closed in the direction of Karlsruhe for a total of 57 hours during the summer holidays. The period affected is from Friday, August 22nd, at 8 p.m. to Monday, August 25th, at 5 a.m. Only traffic in the direction of Karlsruhe has to expect restrictions, while the direction of travel to Stuttgart is not affected. As a result, a large-scale diversion will be set up for national traffic via the A81 and A6 from the Leonberg motorway triangle.

For regional traffic in the direction of Karlsruhe, a diversion will be set up from Pforzheim-Süd, which leads via Wurmberg, Wiernsheim, Niefern-Öschelbronn to the B10. From there it continues via Mühlacker, Ötisheim and Ölbronn-Dürm onto the B294 to the Pforzheim-Nord junction. The Autobahn GmbH Südwest branch calls on road users to follow the detour signs and switch off navigation systems to avoid misunderstandings.

Additional night work and expansion projects

In addition to the summer holiday closure, there will be an eight-hour night closure in both directions between Pforzheim-South and Pforzheim-Nord on August 16th. This lasts from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day. The diversion for traffic towards Stuttgart leads through Pforzheim along the U7a and U9 to Pforzheim-Süd.

The background to the closure is the upcoming expansion of the A8 in the Pforzheim area, specifically the “Six-lane expansion of the A8/Enztal crossing” project. This construction project affects a 4.8 kilometer section between Pforzheim-Nord and Pforzheim-Süd and is intended to increase the number of lanes in both directions from two to three. The aim is to significantly improve traffic safety in the Pforzheimer Depression.

Construction work and its effects

As part of the expansion, eight new bridge structures will be built and the Pforzheim-Ost junction will be completely renovated. In addition, a new parking lot and toilet facility with additional truck parking spaces will be set up on Enztal-Süd.

The construction project also includes a full closure of the A8 between Pforzheim-Süd and Pforzheim-Nord in both directions, which will last from Friday, October 14th, at 10 p.m. to Sunday, October 16th, at 8 p.m. This measure serves to reduce traffic and local residents by bundling various individual measures to improve the transport infrastructure.

The individual measures during the full closure include the demolition of the K 4500 district road bridge between Niefern-Vorort and Pforzheim-Hagenschiess as well as a gap blasting in the “Karlsruher Hang” area to create a steep wall. The demolition of existing pillars in the median of the triple structure is also part of the extensive work, as is the installation of the bridge drainage on the K9808 district road bridge.

Road users are urged to stick to the posted detours. The measures not only serve to improve the infrastructure, but also to increase the attractiveness of the A8 as one of the most congested motorways in Germany, which represents an essential east-west connection in the south.
