An Giang: Rural revolution transforms communities into thriving oases!
On May 16, 2025, Vietnam reports that An Giang Province is making significant progress in developing civilized and modern urban areas. The province currently has 80 out of 110 municipalities recognized as new rural municipalities, a rate of 72.7%. Among them, 38 municipalities meet the advanced NTM standards, while 8 municipalities have achieved model rural municipality status.
A notable achievement is the recognition of three districts - Chau Doc, Long Xuyen and Thoai Son - as new rural districts. The latter was recognized as an advanced NTM district in 2023. These advances are the result of extensive improvements in rural infrastructure, such as the concreting and asphalting of thousands of kilometers of roads, the full coverage of the province by the national electricity grid, as well as the expansion of schools and the strengthening of the health network to improve medical care.
Sustainable development in An Giang
Sustainable agriculture has also become more important. An Giang has developed innovative production models along the value chain and comprehensively implements the One Community, One Product (OCOP) program. My Hoa Hung is highlighted as an example of an exemplary new rural area where the level of mechanization in cultivation reaches 94.6%. This community also shows a strong focus on small-scale industry, services and ecotourism.
Investments in urban infrastructure are equally promising. Central transport structures are being built to better network the economic regions. The modernization of roads, sidewalks and public lighting systems forms the basis for a civilized way of life. As of today's publication, over 100% of high streets are lit and almost all households are using cleaner water.
Urban challenges and solutions
In An Giang, over 90% of solid waste is collected and treated in urban areas. The province relies on modern information technology in city management, including surveillance cameras and online government services, to improve administrative effectiveness. In this context, a civilized urban lifestyle and compliance with the law are also encouraged.
Cultural, sporting and tourist activities contribute to social integration and the promotion of an active community life. The combination of rural and urban development aims to improve the quality of life and advance the socio-economic development of the province.
The developments in An Giang illustrate how targeted measures to improve structures in both urban and rural areas can have a positive impact on the living conditions of the population. Innovative approaches are the focus, as in the study by Berghöfer et al. (2020) about health care in rural areas, which can provide an indication for further developments Springer.
