Drivers beware: massive restrictions on the A93!

From the end of May 2025, the A93 between Regensburg and Ingolstadt will be affected by significant traffic restrictions for several months. These measures are necessary to repair the severely damaged road sections. How tz.de reported, construction work will begin with a focus on road renewal, which will significantly impact the continued accessibility of the route.

From May 23, 2025, drivers traveling in the direction of Regensburg will have to expect disruptions at the Bad Abbach junction. Drivers coming from Munich are asked to continue to the Regensburg-Süd junction and follow the detour via the B16. In view of the ongoing construction work, the entrance to the Pentling fuel and rest area will also be closed from the end of June 2025 until mid-October 2025.

Construction work and renovation measures

The renovation measures aim to replace the old concrete roadways with asphalt surfaces and renew the road substructure to a depth of around 1.5 meters. In addition, as part of the new construction work between the Saalhaupt triangle and the Regensburg junction, work has been underway on the eastern carriageway since April 2025, with expected completion by mid-December 2025. According to autobahn.de The drainage systems will also be replaced to minimize future damage.

The traffic restrictions on the A93 are of a comprehensive nature. From March 19, 2025, traffic routing with two narrowed lanes was already in effect for the Munich direction. This was necessary to make room for the demolition and new construction work that became necessary following the prolonged period of increasing damage to the road surface.

Traffic information and diversions

The direct crossing from the A93 coming from Munich onto the A3 in the direction of Passau is not possible during construction work; A diversion is therefore indicated. The exit from Munich at the Regensburg-Süd junction will also remain closed until mid-May 2025, making a replacement exit via Bad Abbach necessary. Drivers who want to use the A93 towards Munich must drive to the end.

The entire construction project, which extends over a section of around 11 kilometers and has been in operation since 1984, requires intensive construction site traffic management. Until December 2025, a total of only three lanes will be available for traffic. This means that not only are traffic jams to be expected, but there will also be increased noise pollution for residents during the renovation work.

In order to travel safely despite the restrictions, users of the A93 are asked to stay on the motorway in traffic jams and to use alternative means of transport if possible. Avoiding trips at peak times is also recommended to reduce exposure on the highway.
