Wangen is planning new hiking trails and a mobile stage for tourist magic!
Wangen im Allgäu shows a strong commitment to promoting tourism by redesigning its cycling and hiking trails. The city recently announced its plans to increase visitor numbers by restructuring the existing trail network. The current hiking trails have been in use since 2008 and cover around 180 kilometers and 16 circular tours. However, in some aspects these routes fall short of the needs of modern hikers.
The guest office manager Belinda Unger points out that the designation of the hiking trails is no longer up to date. There are also changes in the vegetation and property conditions, which sometimes lead to dangerous areas. To address these challenges, a comprehensive overhaul and redesign of the hiking network is planned. The first phase of the project includes recording the basics, planning the signage and designing a new hiking map. Leader funding of over 25,000 euros and a city contribution of almost 17,000 euros are provided.
Investments in cycling and hiking infrastructure
The city council unanimously approved the “Revision/Reconceptualization of the Wangen hiking trail network” project, as part of which a mobile stage is also planned for events in the garden show area. The mobile stage will have an area of 60 square meters and a height of almost five meters. In addition to speaker wings, the stage will also have side and roof covers and can be easily assembled by one person within 30 minutes. The total cost of this stage is around 100,000 euros, with 60 percent funding being applied for through the Leader program.
The need to modernize cycle paths and hiking trails is also a general trend in the Württemberg Allgäu. The cycle path planning project was launched there in 2016 by the member towns of the Württembergisches Allgäu Tourism Association. The aim of this project is to combine the existing cycle paths into a uniform, comprehensive cycle path network that is suitable for both everyday traffic and tourism.
Württemberg Allgäu cycling region
The Württemberg Allgäu is positioning itself as a cycling destination and has been certified as a cycling region by the ADFC. The revision and digitalization of the cycle path network is crucial for the competitiveness of the region. Significant progress has already been made in recent years: LEADER funding was approved in 2016, the company topplan began using the cycle path network in 2017, and the digitization of 13 themed tours was completed in 2018.
The total cost of this project is around 400,000 euros, with over 300,000 euros being funded by the European Union, the Ravensburg district and the state of Baden-Württemberg. The remaining costs are borne by the 14 cities and municipalities involved. This commitment shows how important it is to develop a user-friendly and attractive infrastructure for tourism in the region.
The initiatives in Wangen and in the Württemberg Allgäu clearly reflect the desire to create an attractive and safe environment for cyclists and hikers that benefits both locals and visitors.
