Batu Cermin Cave Labuan Bajo – Flores
Batu Cermin Cave in Labuan Bajo is a limestone tunnel and cave system that translates to “mirror cave” or “mirror rock” in Indonesian. Located no more than 4 kilometers from the city center, Batu Cermin Cave is a perfect stop on a day trip from Labuan Bajo. This cave became popular due to the reflective light that filters through the cave roof and reflects off the various "mirror rock" surfaces, in turn illuminating entire sections of the cave. alt=“ENTRANCE TO LABUAN BAJO CAVE, BATU CERMIN MIRROR ROCK CAVE”> alt=“ENTRANCE TO LABUAN BAJO CAVE, BATU CERMIN MIRROR ROCK CAVE”> alt=“MIRROR CAVE, FLORES, LABUAN BAJO”> How to get to Batu Cermin Cave Labuan…

How to get to Batu Cermin Cave Labuan Bajo?
The best way to get to Batu Cermin Cave is to rent a motorbike in Labuan Bajo and drive yourself. You can pick up a motorcycle along the main road between 65,000 rupiah and 75,000 rupiah. This is a bit more expensive than what we usually find in Indonesia. However, after wasting too much time trying to get a "fair price", we gave in and accepted the inflated rental price for Labuan Bajo (thanks, rich dive tourists).
Once you have your wheels, all you have to do is follow Google Maps to the pin embedded below. You can expect to drive about 15 minutes from Labuan Bajo to Batu Cermin Cave.
While the pin is correct, Google has a tendency to try to navigate you down a dirt road, which, as we discovered, leads to a dead end. Instead of turning right onto a dirt road at the bend in the main road (Jl Bukit Cinta), follow the bend and continue for another 100 metres. Then turn right onto a paved road that eventually leads to Batu Cermin Cave.
Getting to Labuan Bajo – You can book a cheap domestic flight to Labuan Bajo (also known as Komodo Airport – LBJ) with daily connecting flights to Denpasar in Bali for $50 to $80. You can compare cheap flights to Komodo Airport here.
Guided tour option
If you are traveling in a large group or would prefer to visit Batu Cermin Cave along with some other highlights, you should consider this Full Labuan Bajo Day Tour.
Although I didn't book this tour, it includes a boat ride to another blue water swimming cave known as Ranko Cave, the Amelia Sea View sunset viewpoint and of course the Mirror Cave of Batu Cermin.
If you end up booking please let me know how it was!

What to Expect at Batu Cermin Cave Labuan Bajo
Upon arrival it is immediately clear that this cave is well positioned for tourism, with information boards, a registration desk and even some small stalls waiting for you at the entrance.
However, when we visited around midday, the place was almost deserted. We ended up running into a few small tour groups, but it definitely didn't leave a sour taste of the familiar tourist trap
Plus, you don't need a guide to explore the cave. However, I would assume that if you are in a large group you will be offered to rent one.
Cave entry price
The entrance fee to Batu Cermin Cave is 50,000 rupiah per person. This is a little steep considering they don't provide flashlights or a helmet. However, after exploring the cave and taking a few shots for over an hour, I would say it is worth the price.
After paying, follow a marked path to the cave system. To the left of the main cave is a small cave entrance that you must squeeze through to access Mirror Rock Cave.
Since it is a cave, it is completely dark and you need to bring a light source. We forgot our headlamps and only used our phones to light the way.

Mirror Cave of Batu Cermin?
If you follow the tunnels you will eventually reach the final room known as Baru Cermin Mirror Rock. This narrow tunnel is illuminated by the specular reflections and sparkles due to the salt deposits in the rocks.

Tips for visiting Batu Cermin
Here are some quick tips for visiting Labuan Bajo Batu Cermin Cave.

STAY IN LABUAN BAJO – ACCOMMODATION GUIDE
WHERE I STAY: CIAO HOSTEL As far as hostels go, this is one of the best I've found in Indonesia. Everything is clean and the accommodation includes free transport to the airport or the city. The hostel sits on a hill above Labuan Bajo and offers some of the best views in the city. This is also one of the hostels closest to Batu Cermin Cave in Labuan Bajo.
BEST HOSTEL IN INDONESIA – SEAESTA HOSTELEEven if you don’t stay here, visiting Seaesta Hostel in Labuan Bajo is a must. This place is crazy! It has an incredible rooftop bar and pool, a fully air-conditioned gym, and super comfortable bunks with thick mattresses.
