Batu Santek and Tibu Colorful Waterfall – Central Lombok

Batu Santek Waterfall and Tibu Bunter Waterfall are two waterfalls in central Lombok. If you're looking for a short waterfall hike that's completely off the beaten path, then this is for you.

With very little information online, I found these waterfalls by talking to some Lombok locals. While they're not as impressive as the nearby Benang Kelambu or Benang Setokel waterfalls, they're free to visit and you'll almost certainly have them all to yourself.

How to get to Batu Santek and Tibu Bunter waterfalls

Both Batu Santek and Tibu Bunter waterfalls are accessible via a short hike from the same parking lot in Desun Pesantek village.

To get here you will need your own transportation or a guide as there are currently no tours that visit these waterfalls. It takes approximately 1 hour to drive here from both Senggigi and Tete Batu. For detailed directions, I have pinned the location of Batu Santek and Tibu Bunter parking lots below. Note that the parking pin is called “Batu Santek”.

There are no signs for these falls, but if you follow Google Maps directions to this pin, you will see a roadside clearing with a large tree where you can park your bike.

The trail to Batu Santek and Tibu Bunter waterfalls begins on the left side of this parking lot. It appears there has been a landslide here, so it's a slippery but short walk down to the terraces below.

Follow the obvious path until you reach a river and cross it. From here you can turn right to follow the path to Batu Santek and left to Tibu Bunter waterfall.

Batu Santek waterfall

The Batu Santek waterfall is about 10 meters high and cascades into a shallow pool. Unlike many other waterfalls nearby, these two waterfalls have a decent flow all year round. With that in mind, you can expect that it can get quite heavy during the rainy season.

You will also find some smaller, babbling waterfalls around Batu Santek. Unfortunately, since the pool is very shallow, you can't really swim here. Still, it's a good waterfall to cool off and take some photos.

Find Batu Santek Falls

After turning right, follow the river on the open path for about 10 minutes. You will soon reach the clearing of the waterfall.

To the right of the main waterfall there are two additional cascading streams trickling down the rocks. The scene at Batu Santek is great for relaxing, taking some photos and cooling off in the freshwater pools.

Tibu Colorful Waterfall

Tibu Bunter Falls is another waterfall very close to Batu Santek. If you have time, I would definitely recommend taking the trail to see this second waterfall.

Tibu Bunter is similar in size and shape to Batu Santek and spills into another shallow pool in the clearing.

Search for Tibu Bunter Falls

Once you return to the junction at the start of the river crossing. This time take the left path which leads up and around some fields. After about 10 minutes of walking you will see a large clearing with beautiful rice plantations.

By now you will undoubtedly hear the Tibu Bunter rushing from the small gorge below.

To get there, follow the concrete path until you see a small wooden sign pointing to the right. Continue down this grassy path to the river where you will find the Tibu Bunter waterfall.

Tibu Colorful rice fields

My favorite part of Tibu Bunter Falls is the adjacent rice fields. If you visit just after sunrise, you might be lucky enough to catch the morning rays of sunshine filling the fields with warm light.

This scene was also a pretty cool drone shot in my opinion as the Tibu Bunter waterfall and rice fields could fit into one image!

Make it a waterfall hunting day trip

If you're looking for a full day of waterfall hunting, you can visit Tibu Bunter and Batu Santek waterfalls on the same day as Benang Kelambu and Benang Setokel.

In fact, both waterfalls are only about 45 minutes away by motorbike. Since we were driving from Senggigi, we decided to visit Batu Santek and Tibu Bunter first as they were closer.

The roads along the way are well maintained, even after the September 2019 earthquake. However, you will need some motorcycle experience.
