Horseshoe Falls is one of the three main waterfalls in Mount Field National Park. In this short blog post, I'll summarize everything you need to know about visiting the falls, including how to get there, what to expect, and I'll include inspiring photos that will hopefully convince you to visit!

Where is Horseshoe Falls Tasmania?

The Horseshoe Falls are located in Mount Field National Park in the central highlands of Tasmania. This national park is located approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Hobart.

How do I get here?

To get here, you first need to drive to the Mount Field National Park Visitor Center, which is about 1.5 hours from Hobart. The road to the park follows the Brooker and Lyell Highways and is paved throughout.

Unfortunately, you won't find public transportation or organized tours that include a stop at Horseshoe Falls. However, if you want to see the famous rainforests of Mount Field and its star; Russell Falls, then I can recommend booking a full-day national park tour from Hobart.

Walk to Horseshoe Falls

The path to Horseshoe Falls first passes Russell Falls, the main attraction of this park. Hikers then continue for about 10 minutes over a short climb on well-preserved wooden stairs.

You'll find this waterfall and the end of a short trail that leads to a fork in the Three Falls Circuit just after Russell Falls. If you visit Mount Field, I highly recommend seeing these falls by taking this loop trail, which also passes Lady Barron Falls and the world-famous Tall Trees Walk.

Visit to the waterfall

The path to this waterfall is completely sealed and boarded. At the end, hikers will find a wide viewing platform where they can admire and photograph this Tassie wonder.

Although it is not the tallest waterfall at just 5 meters, it is the serenity and aesthetics of its tranquil surroundings that make it a must-visit. Multiple streams cascade down a wide clearing and meet in a whirlpool of water that almost looks like it was designed by a master artist.
