Binh Phuoc: A new beginning in tourism with mega investments!

The tourism sector in Binh Phuoc, a province in southern Vietnam, is becoming increasingly important. On the occasion of the 2025 Southeast Tourism Linkage Review Conference in Dong Nai, Nguyen Son Hung, vice chairman of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee, and Tran Tuyet Minh, vice chairman of the Binh Phuoc People's Committee, visited the tourism stand to promote the developments. Binh Phuoc focuses on developing social infrastructure and creating a favorable environment to attract investment to further develop tourism. This is done in harmony with landscape and environmental protection as well as the development of other sectors such as agriculture and urban development.

The province is an important hub for tourism due to its geographical location. Binh Phuoc has the largest area among the southern provinces at 6,880.6 km² and borders directly on Cambodia. Despite these advantages, the province is not yet actively promoted for tourism, but offers numerous opportunities for discovery. The distances are manageable: it is only 120 km from Ho Chi Minh City via national roads No. 13 and 14.

Growth forecasts and infrastructure

In 2024, the total number of visitors to Binh Phuoc is estimated to be over 1.5 million, representing an impressive increase of over 50% compared to 2023. Tourism revenue is expected to exceed VND1.2 trillion, accounting for nearly 160% of the annual plan. An attraction of around 1.7 million tourists is forecast for 2025 and 3.5 million visitors are expected by 2030.
To achieve these goals, important interregional transport projects are pending, including the north-south expressway project.

However, accommodation options in Binh Phuoc are still limited: the province offers over 80 accommodations with more than 1,200 rooms, but there are no 4 to 5 star hotels. The quality of available accommodation and services is considered to be limited, particularly for large groups and international conferences. In order to remedy these deficits, the construction of 4 to 5 star hotels and golf courses are planned.

Development of tourism products

Binh Phuoc has the potential for ecotourism development thanks to its rich forest ecosystem and biodiversity. Different types of tourism products are developed, which include four main categories: ecotourism, cultural tourism, spiritual tourism and weekend tourism. In 2024, three typical tours have already been launched, including Bu Gia Map National Park Tour, Ethnic Culture Experience Tour and Provincial Museum Tour.
Binh Phuoc also coordinates with other provinces in the southeast to organize tourism events and exchange information on tourism activities.

At the heart of Binh Phuoc is the provincial capital of Dong Xoai, while the surrounding districts of Dong Phu, Phuoc Long, Loc Ninh, Bu Dang and Chon Thanh also offer tourist attractions. Attractions include Bu Gia Map National Park, Ba Ra Mountain and Thac Mo Lake.

Culinary highlights and local specialties

The province is known for its specialty, the cashew nut, which is used to prepare various dishes such as cashew pies, cashew salad and bamboo rice. In Dong Xoai, visitors will find common fast food chains as well as local restaurants. Despite the limited offering of tourism services, the region is rich in culture and scenic beauty to explore. You can also find self-planned trips, as the infrastructure is slowly developing.

In conclusion, Binh Phuoc, although not yet established as a tourism destination, is on a promising path to promote tourism with its potentials and planned developments. The next few years will be crucial in establishing the province in Vietnam's tourism landscape.
