The worst airports in Germany: Hahn Airport in last place!
The latest results of the airport ranking, published by the Travel-Tech company Airhelp, show clear differences in the evaluation of German airports. Hahn Airport occupies last place with 2.8 out of 5 stars and is therefore the greatest disappointment example for travelers in Germany. Berlin Brandenburg (BER) Airport, which ends up in the penultimate place with 3.2 stars, cuts off just better, but can record a small improvement of 0.1 stars compared to the previous year. Overall, the ranking was created based on over 316,000 Google reviews, with more than 72,000 reviews for Frankfurt am Main Airport alone. Among other things, these reviews reflect problems such as delays, strikes and long waiting times that affect travelers.
Some airports, however, were better able to cut off. The Memmingen, Dortmund and Cologne/Bonn airports each reach 3.5 stars, while Düsseldorf, Hanover and Weeze are rated with 3.6 stars. Hamburg and Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden only do better minimally and reach 3.7 stars. Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart show a moderate performance with 3.9 stars. It is striking that many larger international turnstiles do not cut as well as smaller airports.
The best airports in Germany
At the top of the ranking, Lübeck-Blankensee Airport is at 4.4 out of 5 stars as the best airport in Germany. Places two and three are followed by Münster/Osnabrück, Kassel-Calden and Rostock-Laage, each with 4.3 stars. Other well-rated airports are Nuremberg, Paderborn-Lippstadt, Saarbrücken and Friedrichshafen, which reach all 4.2 stars. Leipzig/Halle and Erfurt-Weimar also perform well with 4.1 stars each. Munich, Bremen and Dresden also reach 4.0 stars.
The ranking illustrates that smaller airports in the passengers are more positive than the large international hubs. This observation is also underpinned by the results of the international ranking, in which Frankfurt Airport occupies a disappointing 222nd place out of a total of 239 rated airports.
international comparisons and punctuality
In international comparison, Hamad International Airport in Qatar takes first place with an assessment of 8.52 points. Cape Town International Airport and Chubu Airport in Japan follow, with 8.50 and 8.49 points. Punctuality, which is 60% of the score, is crucial for the overall rating. Here the data show that the Japanese airports are strongly represented in the top ratings. In Germany, on the other hand, Dortmund, as the best airport, is in third place in the international ranking, followed by Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. The Helmut Schmidt Airport in Hamburg takes fourth place under the German airports. In general, it can be observed that the rankings indicate challenges with which many passengers are confronted, while some airports are trying to improve their processes.
The results of Airhelp's ranking are an indication of the achievements of German airports and are focused on passenger satisfaction and punctuality. The perception of travelers plays a crucial role in the evaluation, but also the various challenges in the operational area must be taken into account.
