Diego Pooth surprises with victory at Let's Dance – A difficult journey!
The winners of the RTL show “Let’s Dance” 2025 have been determined: Diego Pooth and Ekaterina Leonova won the final round on May 23, 2025. Diego Pooth, 21 years old and son of former beauty queen Verona Pooth, describes his experience on the dance show as “damn difficult”. Pooth was initially skeptical about taking part in the show because he had no dance knowledge and his father, Franjo Pooth, had advised him against taking part.
Although Diego Pooth only took third place in the final freestyle, he managed the surprising victory together with Leonova. In the show's 18-year history, there has never been a win for a third-place contestant. “I didn’t believe in victory the whole time,” said Pooth after the show.
Ekaterina Leonova's impressive career
Ekaterina Leonova, 38 years old, won her fourth title in “Let’s Dance” with this victory. She began her career on the show in 2013 and took third place with Paul Janke. In the following years she was able to dance her way into the final again and again with various partners:
- 2015 erreichte sie das Finale mit Matthias Steiner und belegte den dritten Platz.
- 2017 gewann sie ihre erste Staffel mit Gil Ofarim.
- 2018 folgte der zweite Sieg mit Ingolf Lück.
- 2019 gewann sie erneut, dieses Mal mit Pascal Hens.
- 2024 erreichte sie das Finale mit Detlef Soost und belegte wieder den dritten Platz.
With a total of six finals and four wins, Leonova is the most successful professional dancer in the history of “Let’s Dance”. She is only surpassed by Kathrin Menzinger and Massimo Sinató, who have each won two titles.
The challenges of competition
The preparation for the show was very intensive for Pooth and Leonova. The two often trained from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Pooth struggled with the choreography and admitted that a particularly demanding scene that required him to get down on all fours and scream required a lot of effort. However, he has learned to express his emotions while dancing and not be ashamed of it.
After the show ends, Diego Pooth plans to return to his university. His younger brother Rocco, 13, was also asked if he would like to take part in “Let’s Dance”, but is currently not interested.
