Drei Weieren in St.Gallen: New face from July 2025!

The popular Drei Weieren local recreation area in St. Gallen will be upgraded with a new look from July 2025. The redesign includes not only the famous Drei Weieren, but also the Mülenenschlucht and the area around the Notkersegg. Nah reports that this area plays a significant role in both the history and tourism of the region. The project aims to improve visibility and orientation for external visitors.

The city of St. Gallen is working on this upgrade in collaboration with the canton and St.Gallen-Bodensee Tourism. This measure is part of a comprehensive tourism development concept that is supported by financial resources from the federal government, canton and city. A total of two packages of measures are being implemented: uniform branding including signage for better visibility and the review of infrastructural measures to further develop the offer.

Design and navigation

The new design is intended to take into account the area's historic buildings, bodies of water and topography. The planned improvements include the installation of portals at central entrances, such as the Mühleggbahn and the family pool. In addition, uniformly designed directions and signage will ensure better orientation. The project is financed through the federal government's new regional policy, with two thirds of the costs being borne by the federal government and the canton and one third by the city of St. Gallen.

This upgrade of the local recreation area is part of a broader plan that also includes other projects in St. Gallen. Greening measures around the Schönenwegen school building are currently being discussed in order to counteract heat build-up in the area. The city parliament has approved a gross credit of 590,000 francs for this initiative in order, among other things, to convert sealed areas into water-permeable surfaces and to plant new plants.

The upgrading of the Drei Weieren will not only contribute to improving the tourist infrastructure, but also increase the added value for the local population and the environment. The public is also looking forward to the implementation of the plans, which will be complemented by a uniform online presence and improved signposts.

In addition, the fire brigade recently caused a stir when they rescued ducklings from a shaft and the Mülenen Gorge, which underlines the importance of local nature and its protective measures. The development of the area shows St. Gallen's commitment to sustainable and attractive urban development.
