Airport alarm: This is how Crew members determine whether they can fly!

At the beginning of the summer vacation in Germany, the anticipation of vacation grows. But the safety aspect when flying is often in the foreground. Flight attendants form a first impression of the passengers when entering the aircraft. According to Jörg Berlinger, the spokesman for the Swiss union of the cabin staff, the crew observes special “special features” of passengers that could possibly speak against a flight. The reasons from which passengers are not allowed to fly include conspicuous aggressiveness, a high alcohol level and the presence of visible diseases or injuries.

In aviation, the consumption of alcohol is a serious security risk, especially in emergencies. Drunk passengers can endanger the safety of the entire flight. However, the crew not only pays attention to people with potential dangers, but also on passengers who need special support, such as families with young children. Another criterion is the presence of medical specialist staff who can help in an emergency.

A look at the clothes

The clothing of the passengers also plays a role in the overall impression. Sporty sneakers are rated positively, while high heels and barefoot passengers are considered undesirable. Flying barefoot is not only a question of style, but also hygiene - the floor in the plane has many bacteria. Passengers who are fit and sober and dressed appropriately are referred to as "bob" (best on board). On the other hand, the passengers categorized as "Philip", who are less positively rated due to their behaviors and stand for "Passenger I’d Like to Punch".

alcohol and its effects in the aircraft

The effects of alcohol consumption on the plane are also worrying. A new study by the German Aerospace Center (DLR) has shown that alcohol further lowers the oxygen content in the blood. In addition, the Blood oxygen level of healthy people who are usually over 95 percent can go back to around 88 percent on the plane. With about two glasses of wine or two cans of beer, this value can even drop to alarming 85 percent.

The study, in which 48 people aged 18 to 40 years, shows, among other things, that alcohol consumption in combination with low pressure harbors health risks. This can lead to an increased heart rate, while the heart tries to compensate for the lack of oxygen. Headaches, increased blood pressure and cardiac arrhythmias are possible consequences. People with previous illnesses are particularly at risk, and young healthy people are not out of danger.

In order to prevent the risks of alcohol consumption on the aircraft, cardiologist Sabine Genth-Zotz recommends that you draw attention to the dangers and to give tips to improve sleep on the plane. This includes conscious breathing, calming techniques and easy food. With these measures, both the well -being of the passengers and the crew could be secured during the flight.

While some start the summer vacation relaxed, the responsibility of the airlines remains to ensure the safety of all travelers and to pay attention to the different aspects that have an impact on the flight experience.
