Frankfurt Airport: Passenger numbers rise despite global uncertainties!
The current passenger numbers at Frankfurt Airport show a continued upward trend, despite the global tensions that could affect aviation. In April 2025, the airport recorded an increase in passenger numbers by 4.8 percent compared to the previous year and counted a total of 5.34 million passengers. This is particularly due to the late Easter holidays, as Fraport AG reports. In the first four months of 2025, the total number of passengers added up to 17.76 million, which corresponds to an increase of 0.7 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. Nevertheless, the figures only reach 85.2 percent of the passenger volume of 2019, the year before Corona pandemic, reports the fnp.de .
April 2025 was particularly remarkable because on April 11th a new maximum of 198,000 passengers was registered. While European air traffic was increasing by 6.8 percent this month, 3.3 percent more travelers were shown in the domestic flights from and to Frankfurt compared to the previous year. On the other hand, the demand for flights to North America fell by 1.9 percent, and the number of passengers to South Africa also decreased by 0.5 percent, which could partially be attributed to the violent arguments in the country.
historical reviews
at the end of 2021, however, the passenger numbers showed a return to the uncertainties caused by a new Corona virus variant. In December 2021, the passenger volume rose sharply and was around 2.7 million passengers, which represents an increase of 204.6 percent compared to the previous year. Nevertheless, the volume remained 44.2 percent lower compared to December 2019.
The future of air traffic
dr. Stefan Schulte, CEO of Fraport AG, expressed uncertainties in terms of future developments, but assumes that the demand could attract from spring 2022. In view of the latest data from 2025, it can already be seen that despite all the challenges of Frankfurt Airport, one of the largest international hubs in Germany is still on the right course.
With a steady increase in passenger numbers, the airport's resilience is shown, while outdated questions have to be taken into account in order to promote recovery on the way to normality.
