Book early for the best places: Alpine huts are fully booked!

The huts of the German Alpine Club (DAV) record a real rush of reservations at the beginning of the hiking season. Weekends and holiday periods are particularly affected. DAV spokeswoman Miriam Roth reports that booking numbers have increased noticeably and many huts are fully booked for weekends up to a year in advance. This makes it particularly difficult for larger groups to find a place. The demand for overnight stays in the huts has already exceeded the level before the corona pandemic.

In 2023, over 937,000 overnight stays were recorded in the DAV huts, which represents a significant increase compared to 890,000 in 2018 and 923,000 in 2019. Multi-day tours in particular are becoming increasingly popular, while more and more people are discovering hiking and nature-based time out in the mountains.

It's worth booking early

The online booking system “Hut Reservation” makes reserving the huts much easier. However, it is advisable to keep a careful eye on the cancellation deadlines, as places can become available at short notice. The DAV recommends booking early and choosing less busy periods, such as weekdays outside of holidays. This strategy could help make the dream of staying in the mountains come true.

Especially on sunny weekends, the Rotwandhaus attracts over 1,000 hikers, which impressively documents the popularity of the huts. After a decline during the pandemic, booking numbers have now steadily increased and the trend towards outdoor activities and mountain sports remains unbroken. So if you want to relax in the mountains, you should plan and reserve immediately so that you don't go away empty-handed.

Rhine Palatinate reports about the need for early bookings. In contrast, it increases tz.de the increasing number of overnight stays and the unbroken trend towards mountain tours.
