Gili Trawangan Viewpoint – Best hilltop sunset spot on Gili T

Looking for the best sunset spot at Gili Trawangan Viewpoint? Although it is not impressive, the 100-meter hill known as Gili Trawangan Hilltop is the highest point on Gili T.

Although it's just a short walk, you'll often only see a handful of people at the Gili Trawangan viewpoint. Consequently, I think it's one of the best sunset spots on the island if you want a great view and a break from the busy streets below.

The Gili Trawangan Viewpoint – Viewpoint on the hill

The Gili Trawangan Viewpoint or Gili T Hilltop is located on the southwest corner of Gili T. It is a short walk that should only take about 5 minutes from the beach.

The hilltop viewpoint of Gili Trawangan is covered with trees that are usually missing their leaves. I suspect this could be due to the strong winds that can roll across the island.

Once you reach the top, you'll have 360-degree panoramic views of Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. On a clear day, you can probably also see as far as Lombok and even Mount Agung, which juts out from mainland Bali.

How to get to the Gili Trawangan viewpoint

To get to the Gili Trawangan Hilltop location, you need to head to the southwest corner of the island. The best way to find it is to go to a bar marked on Google Maps as “Sunset Bar,” right on the edge where the beach ends and the street around the corner begins.

From here you will notice the concrete steps leading up the hill.

It's just a short but steep 5-minute walk to the top of Gili T Hill where you can enjoy the views of the tropical island. We spent a short time up here for sunset before heading down the other side in the dark.

If you follow this path you will pass a horse stable at the bottom of the hill where you will need to turn right to get back onto the main beach road.

Gili Trawangan Sunsets – Other Locations

The Gili Trawangan hilltop viewpoint is probably one of the best places to watch the sunset.

However, incredible sunset views are available on most parts of the western side of Gili T, where you can watch the sunset next to Mount Agung in the distance.

It is said that the sunset on Gili Trawangan is one of the best in the world. I don't know if it's the best, but it definitely put on a show every night when we were on the island.

Sunset Beach Cleanup – Free beer

Just around the corner from the hilltop viewpoint is the meeting point for the weekly beach cleanup organized by the Gili Trawangan Eco Trust.

Every Friday, travelers meet in front of the Gili Teak restaurant to clean the beach of trash. Not only do you help keep the island clean, but you also earn a free beer for the sunset.
