Autumn festival in the Lohberg single home: A celebratory end to the year!

On Friday, September 19th, the traditional autumn festival of the Ring of German Mining Engineers (RDB) took place in the historic Ledigenheim Lohberg. Over 50 comrades and guests took part in this last major event of the year, which was accompanied by bright sunshine and late summer temperatures.

In his opening address, the first chairman emphasized the importance of the meetings for the mining engineering community. A special highlight was the travel report from the RDB motorcycle group, which reported on their Thuringia tour and showed impressive pictures. The audience followed these stories attentively and actively applauded.

Singing together and heartfelt conversations

The gathering experienced a special moment when they sang the Steigerlied together, which was loudly intoned by everyone present. This song has a long tradition and dates back to the first half of the 16th century. Over time, various sealings and additions were made. It is sung on numerous occasions such as mountain parades and celebrations and reflects the identity-forming meaning that the song has in both active mining regions and areas with closed mines, such as UNESCO reported.

The atmosphere during the festival was characterized by warm and lively conversations. Comrades exchanged memories of the old colliery days. The guest of honor, Konrad Hupfer, editor-in-chief of the mining newspaper, took the time to talk to the participants, which further lightened the mood.

Social gatherings and a view of the future

After the official part of the evening, those present enjoyed grilled meat and free drinks in the courtyard. The warmth and camaraderie lasted into the evening hours and made the autumn festival a worthy highlight of the RDB event year. The next meeting is already announced for December, when the Christmas tour is approaching, which is already firmly planned in the calendars.

The Steigerlied, as part of mining culture, will continue to play an important role in the future. Traditional mining values are kept alive through such events and passed on to future generations.
