Hessentag 2025: Bad Vilbel expects 750,000 guests and celebrates for ten days!

Hessentag 2025 in Bad Vilbel, the oldest and largest state festival in Germany, starts on June 13th and ends on June 22nd. Mayor Sebastian Wysocki expects around 750,000 visitors to attend the celebrations. The motto of the ten-day festival is “We bring Hesse onto the stage” and celebrates local ties, cosmopolitanism, culture and innovation. This makes Bad Vilbel, a city with growing tourist interest, the center of the country.

Daniel Kumelis, managing director of city marketing, is confident that Hessentag will have a positive impact on tourism in the city. “The number of visitors has increased consistently over the last five years,” says Kumelis. While there were around 55,000 tourists in 2019, Bad Vilbel already recorded around 140,000 overnight stays in 2024. This is a sign of increasing interest in the city and its opportunities.

Event program and commitment

Hessentag offers a wide range of events, including concerts, theater performances and parties. Over 400 clubs, institutions, police, fire departments, emergency services, cultural workers, associations and businesses will take an active part in the festival. Thanks to the commitment of many volunteers, the festival, which is considered a celebration of volunteer work, is an unforgettable experience.

A new tourist information center was recently opened in Bad Vilbel on Frankfurter Straße, which will play a central role, especially during Hesse Day. The tourist information center will act as an information point and lost property office and will offer visitors advice on leisure activities such as hiking and cycling. Merchandise such as jute bags and posters is also sold. Opening hours during Hessentag are 12 hours a day, supported by volunteers.

Preparations and future perspectives

Before Hessentag, inquiries about accommodation and restaurants in Bad Vilbel have increased. Wysocki and Kumelis are optimistic that good connections to Frankfurt by train and motorway will attract many visitors. Kumelis also says he doesn't believe in overtourism because the industry has strategies to manage it.

The Tourist Information is also planning to obtain certification from the German Tourism Association after the Hessentag in order to further increase the quality of the offering. Bad Vilbel sees Hessentag not only as a big celebration, but also as an opportunity to sustainably promote tourism in the region.
