Kandersteg opens World Heritage Trail: A celebration for locals and guests!

The new UNESCO themed trail in Kandersteg will open its doors on October 4, 2025. This opening is the result of the redesign of the community square, which now functions as a meeting area for locals and guests. The aim of this initiative is to make the unique natural and cultural landscape of the village visible and to enhance its value for guests and locals.

Preparations for the project began in spring 2025 in close cooperation with the community. Nico Seiler, President of the Kandersteg Tourism Association, emphasizes the importance of making the master plan visible to the population. He emphasizes how crucial it is to raise awareness of the region's value. The themed trail is being introduced as part of Kandersteg's commitment to being one of 23 local communities committed to preserving the region for future generations.

The World Heritage Trail

The new World Heritage Trail includes four circular routes that offer a total of 13 information locations. These stations provide information about UNESCO landscapes, natural phenomena and the history and traditions of the community. Kandersteg Tourism has once again worked together with the World Nature Forum (WNF) in Naters.

What is particularly worth mentioning is that the theme trail was implemented with existing benches in the village, which contributes to the diversity of ideas in the project. At the same time, major construction work was required to redesign the square in front of the community center. This redesign aimed to create a welcoming meeting area that brings both locals and guests together.

Future projects

But the renovation work in Kandersteg does not end there. Further upgrades are already being planned, including the redesign of the village entrance, which will be associated with a warm welcome to the World Heritage region. These measures demonstrate the commitment of the tourism association and the community to increasing the attractiveness of the village in the long term.

The ceremonial opening of the World Heritage Trail is scheduled for October 9, 2025, where numerous representatives from politics, tourism and local businesses are expected. It remains to be seen how the new concept will affect perception and the flow of visitors in Kandersteg. The anticipation of this event and the changes associated with it is already noticeable.
