Kea Point Track-Mount Cook National Park
Kea Point Track-Mount Cook National Park
The KEA Point Track Mount Cook National Park is one of the shortest hiking trails in the park. Kea Point offers a spectacular view of the moraine wall of the Mueller glacier and Aoraki / Mount Cook.
If you are looking for a shorter hike in the Mount Cook National Park, the KEA point hike is a great option. This is a simple but rewarding hike that is much less busy than the Hooker Valley Track.
The viewpoint offers unique views of the Mueller Glacier Lake and the Moraine as well as Mount Cook and Mount Sefton.
How to get to the Kea Point Track
The Kea Point Track begins in Mount Cook National Park, very close to the White Horse Hill Camp site. This is the same area in which you can start the Hooker Valley Track, the Sealy Tarns Track and the Mueller Hut hike.
The best way to get to the hiking area of the Mount Cook national park is to drive here. There is a large parking space where you can park your car free of charge. However, this parking lot can be very full in the high season, so they plan to arrive early.
If you don't have a car, fortunately you can still get to the SEALY TARRNS route by booking a shuttle bus. There are some companies that offer this service. I found Cook Connect as one of the most popular options.

When you follow the signs from the White Horse Hill campsite, the Kea Point Track slowly leads into the subalpine bush. After about 10 minutes the path is divided. KEA Point Viewpoint
The wooden viewing platform on the Kea Point offers a wide view of the footstool, the Hooker Valley, the Mueller Gletschersee and the Moraine, Mount Sefton and Aoraki/Mount Cook.
The name "Kea Point" comes from the Kea Vogel, an incredibly intelligent and cheeky native Alpine parrot. These parrots are located in Mount Cook National Park and can often be viewed on the route.
