Klanghaus in Toggenburg: New tourism magnet despite access hurdles!

The Klanghaus in Toggenburg plays a central role in a comprehensive tourism concept that will be further expanded this year. The focus is on lower Toggenburg and neighboring regions. A highlight of this year's season program is the Churfirsten Trail Run, which covers various route lengths up to the marathon distance. The Klanghaus opens at Schwendisee and promises to generate cultural attention, even if access is restricted.

Christian Gressbach, managing director of the Klanghaus, compares the Klanghaus with the Matterhorn, a real tourist magnet. He sees the Klanghaus as an identity-creating beacon for the region, which is intended to support the hotel industry through rehearsals by choirs and music groups lasting several days. Gressbach emphasizes the importance of connecting and networking the tourist offerings in Toggenburg and beyond.

Important projects and initiatives

The Thur and Neckerweg will be opened in September to draw attention to lower Toggenburg. A project to return the Libingen Glockenspiel to the Hulftegg in Mosnang is also in progress. A planned information center at Fischingen Monastery will act as a central hub in the Hörnli mountains. The aim is to strengthen Nesslau in terms of tourism, particularly with a focus on Wolzenalp and Johanneum. The expansion of accommodation in Nesslau will also be taken into account, although the market will decide on the magnetic effect.

Day tourism is an important pillar of regional added value. New this year is the hike “From Lake to Mountain”, which leads from Weesen to Chäserrugg on August 9th. In addition, the Churfirsten Trail Run will also be held from August 29th to 31st. In addition, a new hiking format “Around the Alpstein” is being created in collaboration with Appenzell tourism organizations.

Sound house as a total architectural work of art

The Klanghaus Toggenburg is not only a tourist attraction, but also a place for architecture, sound and nature. The basic idea is based on Marcel Meili's theses sheets from the 2010 thesis competition. It functions as a projection or crystallization figure with numerous accesses. The focus is on the architectural aspects and constructive solutions for room acoustics.

In addition, the interaction between the landscape, the natural yodel and the soundscape of the building is examined. The publication published on this project brings together contributions from experienced experts from various disciplines - including architecture, sound art, acoustics, ethnomusicology, art history, philosophy, history and tourism - as well as newcomers. It is rounded off by 3D architectural and construction drawings, photo series, scores and lyric tracks.
