Climbing forest on Wallberg: Exciting nature experience for the whole family!

A new leisure project is being initiated in the Tegernsee region: Jörg Derzbach is planning to build a climbing park on Wallberg, which will be built next to the Wallbergmoosalm. The project is called “Wallbergmoos climbing forest – a real nature experience with a view of Lake Tegernsee” and is intended to offer both locals and tourists an exciting adventure in nature. Derzbach, a 46-year-old master carpenter, tree climber and canyoning guide from Gmund, reported great interest in expanding leisure opportunities in the beautiful mountain landscape Mercury.

The newly planned climbing forest will consist of 65 trees, including spruce, fir and beech. A total of eight courses with different levels of difficulty are planned, which are also accessible to children aged four and over. Particular attention is paid to installing the climbing elements in a tree-friendly manner so that dismantling is possible without leaving any residue. Sustainability was taken into account in the infrastructure and operation of the climbing forest, for example through the use of wood chip paths and dry separation toilets. We are also aiming for a digital booking system to avoid overcrowding.

Support and concerns

Christian Stadler, chairman of the Rottach-Egern transport and beautification association, sees the project as having advantages for the toll revenue of the panoramic road, while Mayor Josef Bierschneider is open to the project, but emphasizes the operating hours (1 p.m. to 7 p.m., on weekends from 11 a.m.). However, no official application for the project has yet been submitted and it remains to be clarified what type of application is required.

The nature conservation association “Wildes Bayern” has now applied for access to files from the district office. A non-public on-site meeting with the Nature Conservation Advisory Board was announced to assess the situation on site. The approval process is carried out in cooperation with the municipality, the state building authority and the lower nature conservation authority.

With these developments, the region has the opportunity to significantly expand its leisure offerings and encourage both locals and tourists to enjoy a new experience of nature.
