Royal couple Frederik and Mary delight Thisted during their cruise
King Frederik X (57) and Queen Mary (53) continue their summer cruise through northern Denmark on board the royal yacht Dannebrog. This tradition, which dates back to King Christian On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the monarchs visited the municipality of Thisted after exploring Frederikshavn on Monday.
In Thisted, the royal couple were warmly welcomed by Mayor Niels Jørgen Pedersen in the port of Hanstholm. Particularly noteworthy was the carriage ride through Hanstholm, which led to a welcoming ceremony in the old town hall. The Danish royals also visited Naturlandsbyen, a project on the banks of the Limfjord, where there were comprehensive explanations of the vision and functioning of this natural village.
Special features of the visit
The visit to Thisted also included a look at a former silo, now used as a cultural site. The couple climbed the 42 meter high silo and enjoyed the breathtaking view. The day's activities included lunch at Village Nature's Atelier Nature and meetings with children who took part in educational workshops, including the Talk and Eat project.
Another important stop was the coworking space “Surf & Work” in Vorupør. Here King Frederik and Queen Mary exchanged ideas about entrepreneurship and innovative ideas. They rounded off the day with a visit to a beach in Vorupør, known for its fishing tradition and water sports.
A reception on the royal ship
The evening ended with a reception on the royal ship Dannebrog in Hanstholm harbor. Local officials and people who had accompanied the couple during their eventful day were invited. This reception, which promoted both social and cultural exchange, was a fitting end to a day full of interesting encounters.
Before their arrival in Thisted, King Frederik and Queen Mary visited the port of Sæby on August 25, 2025, where they were received by Mayor Karsten Thomsen. An official reception took place in the city's historic church, followed by a visit to a glassblowing factory. Queen Mary's fashion choice was particularly eye-catching, wearing a long, dark blue skirt and a blue tweed jacket. She had already worn this in 2022 at a service in honor of Queen Margrethe II, combined with an anchor brooch as a tribute to her mother-in-law.
In summary, the royal couple's summer cruise shows how deeply rooted the traditions are in the Danish royal family and how closely the connection to the population is maintained. These trip highlights not only reflect the commitment of the monarchs, but also the cultural diversity and entrepreneurial dynamism of Denmark.
