The newest and largest cruise ship in the world, theStar of the Seasfrom Royal Caribbean International, began its highly anticipated maiden voyage today from Port Canaveral, Florida. With a length of 365 meters and a width of 65 meters, the ship is considered a masterpiece of modern engineering. It is the second ship of the Icon Class and left the Meyer Turku shipyard on July 10, 2025 to begin its journey.
After being handed over to Royal Caribbean International, the ship made final preparations in Cádiz. Inviting facilities and green spaces have been created there for theCentral Parkset up on the ship. On August 9, 2025, theStar of the Seasfinally arrived after sailing across the Atlantic, stopping in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and the private island Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Variety of experiences on board
TheStar of the Seasoffers its guests an exceptional experience divided into eight different experience districts:Chill Island,Thrill Island,Surfside,AquaDome,The Hideaway,Central Park,Royal PromenadeandSuite Neighborhood. The first regular passenger service starts today, and many travelers have been looking forward to their trip.
The maiden voyage will include an itinerary from Port Canaveral via Perfect Day at CocoCay and a sea day back to Port Canaveral, and will run August 16-20, 2025. After this first voyage, the ship will be used for short trips and, from August 31, 2025, for week-long Caribbean cruises from/to Port Canaveral.
Godmother and future ships
Originally, the famous US singer Diana Ross was the godmotherStar of the Seasprovided. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, she canceled at short notice. Instead, astronaut Kellie Gerardi will christen the ship on August 20, 2025. The anticipation of this ceremony promises to be another highlight in what has already been an exciting year for the cruise industry.
The third ship of the Icon Class is already in the futureLegend of the Seas, in planning. It is also being built at the Meyer Turku shipyard and is scheduled to set sail in summer 2026. TheStar of the Seashas a high capacity with 2,805 guest cabins and suites that can accommodate 5,610 guests at double occupancy. At maximum occupancy, the ship can accommodate up to 7,600 passengers and 2,350 crew members.
