Cultural Treasures of Long An: Tourism Booming in 2024!

Nguyen Tan Quoc, deputy director of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, reported on the significant progress in the preservation and promotion of historical and cultural relics coupled with the development of tourism. This happened during a recent conference aimed at discussing innovative ideas for restoring these valuable sites and finding solutions to existing difficulties. The topics of the conference are particularly relevant as the government of Long An Province increasingly devotes attention to the connection between culture and tourism.

Long An expects an impressive number of 2,010,000 visitors in 2024, doubling compared to last year. This increase of 54% according to the established plan shows the growing interest in the region, especially in its historical and cultural attractions. Among the visitors there are 340,000 who came specifically to visit various historical sites and take part in cultural festivals. This demonstrates the potential of cultural relics and facilities as tourist attractions, as also described in the book “Cultural Tourism: Market Structures, Case Studies, Perspectives”, published under ISBN 9783486711165.

Cultural activities and educational initiatives

As part of this development, the managed historical and cultural sites have welcomed around 247 groups with a total of around 31,200 visitors, mainly union members, young people and students. In addition, over 4,100 courses on the care, preservation, restoration and promotion of historical relics were held, with almost 127,000 participants taking part. These educational initiatives are a key part of Long An's cultural tourism promotion strategy and aim to increase knowledge and appreciation of the region's cultural heritage.

Nguyen Minh Sang, vice chairman of Tan An Municipal People's Committee, highlighted the importance of river tourism and offered his ideas on restoring historical relics. This is being done as part of comprehensive plans aimed at sustainably promoting the value of these relics in the context of tourism development.

Outlook and challenges

The conference also discussed how the preservation and promotion of historical and cultural relics is viewed not only as a duty but as a practical activity to implement Resolution No. 51 of the Long An Provincial Party Committee. Concrete plans have been proposed to address the challenges of restoring the relics and maximizing their tourism value.

In summary, Long An is on a promising path to further strengthen the connection between culture and tourism. The combination of conservation measures and active tourism developments is considered to play a key role in creating sustainable economic benefits for the region.
