Where is the Tahune Airwalk in Tasmania?
The Tahune Airwalk (often referred to as the Tasmania Airwalk) is an attraction at Tahune Adventures Park. This park is located on Arve Road, approximately 28 kilometers from Geeveston or 88 kilometers south of Hobart.
Below I have pinned the exact location of the Tahune Adventures website.
Combined: Tahune Airwalk & Day Trip to the Hastings Caves
If you are in Hobart and want to visit the Tahune Forest Airwalk, it might be a good idea to book an organized day trip that also includes a trip to Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs.
This combined tour goes 40 meters below and above the ground! Guests receive round-trip accommodation transfers, guided tours of the caves, entry to the Tahune Airwalk, and all fees are included.
This is one of the most cost-effective ways to experience two of southern Tasmania's best attractions in a single day.

How to get to the Tahune Forest Airwalk from Hobart
If you don't book a guided tour from Hobart, you can also drive here yourself.
The road is quite winding with some steep sections, but it is paved the entire way. Tahune Adventures is accessible by any 2WD car or large van/caravan. However, please note that Arve Road can be slippery and icy in winter.
First drive on the Huon Highway towards Geeveston, about 60 kilometers south of Hobart. Once in Geeveston there are signs turning right for Hartz Mountains and Tahune Adventures on Arve Road.
Follow Arve Road for 27 kilometers before reaching Tahune Adventure Park. There are large red signs along the entire trail to let you know you are approaching.
Did you know: You can also stay at Tahune Adventures Tasmania. Dormitories, bungalows and full family suites are available at Tahune Lodge.

About Tahune Adventures and the famous Airwalk
Below I will answer all your questions about visiting Tahune Adventures. This is current information following the devastating bushfires.
Is the Tahune Airwalk open?
The Tahune Forest Airwalk will be open again from March 2019. It is open 7 days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Note that the last ticket can be purchased around 4:00 p.m. The staff then leaves the premises. However, you can still access the Airwalk and the other trails after these hours by simply closing the gate behind you.
Tickets and prices
So does the Tahune Forest Airwalk offer free entry? No, unfortunately not!
Below you will find the updated prices for the various attractions and activities at Tahune Adventure Park. I took these directly from their website.
Update: I have updated the following prices as of March 2022.
| Adult | $31 |
| Child (5-16 years) | $15.50 |
| Family (2 adults, 3 children) | $77.50 |
| Concession/Student | $27.90 |
| Infant (0-5) | FREE |
Note that these prices are for park admission only and include the basics like the Tahune Airwalk and surrounding trails.
You must book upon arrival and pay additional fees for the other activities, including the Eagle Glider and Twin Rivers Adventure.
The 2018-2019 Tahune Forest bushfires
Devastatingly, Tasmania experienced some of its most intense bushfires between December 2018 and February 2019.
Thunderstorms and drought caused up to 40 fires to burn across the island during this time. It is said that almost 3% of the island's forests were destroyed during this time. These include rainforest and highland tree areas.
Unfortunately, these fires had a dramatic impact on the Tahune Forest. As a result, much of the once dense rainforest landscape has transformed into drier sclerophyll forest.
With the help of several companies and organizations, extensive renovation work was carried out to restore the Tahune Airwalk.

Is Tahune Adventures worth it?
This question is relative and depends on what you are looking for in your Tasmanian travel experience. While I want to support Tasmanian tourism businesses, my primary commitment is to you, my readers. That's why I'm always honest in my suggestions.
Due to the damage caused by the fires, those who visit Tahune Adventures and want to experience the Tahune Airwalk will simply no longer have the opportunity to experience the rainforest environment from above as was previously possible.
However, seeing the damage and changes to the forest is an educational experience. The Tasmania Tree Walk (Air Walk) is still open and experiencing the cantilever is still a great highlight.
Honestly, if you want to learn about the effects of fire, see the changing forests from above, and experience the cantilever, then I would say take the trip. Also, those reading this with kids – they will absolutely love it!
On the other hand, for adventure travelers like me or those who spend a lot of time in nature, I would say that a visit to Tahune Adventures might leave you feeling a little disappointed. In saying that, I'm glad I was here to see the extent of the fire damage and to support this Tasmanian tourism business that was treated incredibly rudely.
What to Expect at Tahune Adventures
Now with the basics out of the way, let's get into what you can actually expect at Tahune Adventures in Tasmania!
The Tahune Forest Airwalk
The main highlight of the park and the reason it is so famous is of course the Tahune Airwalk. This Tahune Tree Top Walk in Tasmania follows a 30 meter high walkway that rises above the forest floor.
It is made of solid steel beams and wires that feel really secure.
alt=“TAHUNE AIRWALK TASMANIA”>
It's a pretty cool experience to walk across the forest floor and get a unique perspective of the huge trees that dominate the landscape in the Tahune Forest.

The cantilever chair
The Cantilever is the pièce de résistance of the Tasmanian Airwalk and Tahune Adventures in general. A cantilever is basically a long projecting beam that is attached at only one end.
The Tahune boom looks like it defies gravity as it leaps 50 meters above the forest floor overlooking the Huon River.

The swinging bridges
Another attraction in the park is the Swinging Bridges Walk. This is an easy 40 minute to 1 hour walk that crosses both the Huon River and the Picton River. The route starts at the Tahune Airwalk and returns to the Tahune Bridge near the visitor center.
The highlight of the hike are the two epic suspension bridges, the larger of which is over 100 meters long. I've been on some pretty epic suspension bridges, including thrilling ones in the Himalayas and New Zealand, and I still found the Swinging Bridges pretty impressive.
If you visit Tahune Adventures Tasmania, be sure to at least check out this short circular hike.

The Huon Pine Walk
Huon Pine is a famous Tasmanian tree found nowhere else in the world. This special wood achieved world fame as an excellent material for boat building. Consequently, Huon Pine was a huge timber industry in the early days of settlement in Tasmania.
Today, Huon Pine is only very well-maintained forested. Luckily, because these are some of the oldest living trees on earth! The Huon Pine Walk is a quick 20-minute walk through a rainforest section of the park that appeared to be mostly undamaged by the fires.
There are some Huon pines growing near the river at the end of the loop.

Unfortunately, old and old growth forests are still being cut down in Tasmania. If you would like to learn more about the damage and what you can do to protect Tasmania's forests like the Tarkine, visit the Bob Brown Foundation website.
Eagle hang gliding
The Eagle hang gliding experience is another attraction in the park. This is a fixed rope gliding experience that somehow combines zip-lining and hang gliding.
The total length of the Eagle Hang Glider is 400 meters and it crosses the Huon River at a height of about 50 meters. Unfortunately the Eagle Glider was not open when I visited, but I was told it is now back in operation.
Visitors must pay extra for this experience ($22 for adults and $20 for children).

Twin Rivers Adventure
The Twin Rivers Adventure is a guided rafting experience. This experience must be booked in advance and there are either 3.5-hour or 4.5-hour trips.
River rafting at Tahune Adventures is one of the things I wish I had done during my visit. However, we missed the timing! If you want to do this then it's worth booking in advance!

Motorhomes and caravans: Stay overnight at The Tahune Airwalk
Previously, you could simply buy your ticket for the Tahune Airwalk and then park for free in the large overflow parking lot.
However, the park recently began charging $10 per vehicle, which is still a lot considering there isn't actually any other accommodations. You pay this directly at the visitor center office (only during opening hours).
We stayed here in our large van and were able to see the Airwalk and surrounding routes in the late afternoon and early morning. After the airwalk, however, we drove to the Hartzberge and stayed here for free (probably not legal, but no one would look there).
