Magaluf will soon shine: new promenade ensures a pure holiday feeling!

Mallorca remains a popular holiday destination for Germans this year, and the ongoing construction work along the promenade in Magaluf is causing mixed feelings among guests. Millions of tourists are drawn to the island during the season, with the party areas being particularly popular. Magaluf, a stronghold of nightlife, remains a popular destination, especially among British holidaymakers and many Germans. Despite the construction work that can impact the holiday experience, the planned new openings provide optimism.

The construction work on the Paseo Marítimo, which has led to the closure of beach areas, aims to improve the area and make it more environmentally friendly. The aim is to enrich the area with dunes and Mediterranean vegetation. The renovation will cost around five million euros, with four million euros coming from EU funds and one million euros coming from the sustainable tourism tax. The opening of the new promenade in Magaluf is scheduled for June 22, 2025, which increases the anticipation of holidaymakers.

Construction work on the Paseo Marítimo

In Palma de Mallorca, however, the Balearic Islands Port Authority (APB) plans to open the first parts of the newly designed Paseo Marítimo to the public on Wednesday. Affected areas include the newly created footpaths and cycle paths on the sea side as well as new lanes that are already used by cars. On Tuesday evening, construction workers were working on the final paving stones and markings to make the opening possible on time.

The project to redesign the Paseo Marítimo is one of the largest urban development projects in Palma in recent years. The traffic route will be transformed into a promenade that includes wide sidewalks, cycle lanes, new squares and more green spaces. Parts of the Golondrinas pier are still under construction, and the pedestrian bridge of the former Hotel Mediterráneo has been demolished but not completely dismantled. Work is also still underway on the Peraires Bridge and the design of the square near Santa Catalina.

Changes and challenges

The release on Wednesday specifically affects the area on the sea side, where cyclists and pedestrians will have more space. The official opening of the new Paseo Marítimo is scheduled for October 2025, at the same time as the completion of the neighboring Club de Mar. The express demolition of the bridge at the Hotel Mediterráneo, which took place at the end of February, went faster than expected and represents part of the comprehensive work. The process of expropriating the Social Club, a former discotheque on the promenade, was, however, less smooth; The state took over the building and the operators moved to the former Disco Victoria in Melià Victoria.
