Mannheim city council invites you to a nudist swinger trip: educational leave or scandal?

Mannheim city councilor Julien Ferrat (34) caused a stir with his invitation to a political education trip to Cap d’Agde, a French town known for its nudist and swinger culture. The trip, scheduled to take place in August, is described as a naturist swingers holiday and is aimed at all interested citizens, regardless of their experience in the swinging sector. The invitation is published in the official gazette, along with a provocative picture of Ferrat on the beach with his genitals covered with a sign “The Mannheimers in the local council”. FFH reports that the city council emphasizes that the invitation is serious and that the first interested parties have already registered.

Cap d’Agde is considered a “mecca for nudists and swingers”. The town is home to the Village Naturiste naturist resort and Ferrat describes it as a showcase project for state-planned urban development to strengthen the local economy. The political dimension of the trip includes discussions with the tourism office, the city administration and hoteliers to find out what lessons Mannheim can learn from Agde's development. Ferrat has already been open-hearted on previous occasions, for example at a naturist consultation that he organized in Mannheim in 2018.

Political reactions

The invitation not only met with a positive response. The CDU has criticized the action as “brain-burnt” and fears that the behavior of a city councilor will rub off on the image of politics as a whole. Christian Hötting, the CDU district chairman, said that such actions endanger the reputation of political work. The city administration, on the other hand, is holding back from assessing the contribution and emphasizes the party-political neutrality of the official gazette.

Ferrat also plans to offer a training camp with outdoor sex on the nudist beach on Friesenheim Island to train participants to ensure that no one feels uncomfortable in Cap d'Agde. The entire excursion is intended as a kind of experimental examination of proximity to citizens and an open culture of discussion, which Ferrat would like to promote in his role as a member of the electoral association DIE MANNHEIMER.
