Mason's Swimming Hole - Epic seaside resort in Cape Tribulation
Mason’s Swimming Hole is an untouched freshwater swimming hole that is within walking distance of the main attractions of Cape Tribulation. It is the safest blue-water swim hole in Cape tribulation, which means that you have finally found a crocodile-free place for swimming and cooling.
Cape tribulation is famous for the place where the rainforest in Australia's wild tropical north hits Queensland on the sea. Since it is the tropics, you would expect this idyllic travel destination to be hot!
Unfortunately, Cape Tribulation is a place that will really do justice to the old Australian proverb, "everything here wants to kill you again!" This applies in particular on the beach, where crocodiles and occasionally deadly sea sting lurk and wait for the unexpected, tired backpacking to make the wrong movement.
Fortunately, there are certain places where you can escape the heat and cool down. In this short blog post I present the best blue freshwater hole in Cape Tribulation: Mason’s Swimming Hole near Mason’s Cafe.

Where is Mason's swimming hole?
Mason’s Swimming Hole is behind Mason’s Cafe. The swimming hole is located on a private country and belongs to the same types that run the café.
Fortunately for the visitors of Cape Tribulation, the friendly café owners have opened the swimming hole for the public, with a small donation ($ 1) being the required price.
You can find the café and the bathing area on the left side of the Cape Tribulation Road when you drive north (opposite the beach). Realistically speaking, it is quite difficult to overlook, just go towards myall beach and you will see the signs just before you arrive there.

As mentioned above, a small fee is required to enjoy the untouched swimming hole on the Mason’s Waterhole. However, it only costs $ 1 per person and you can swim and enjoy the calm as you want.

The water hole is characterized by a small introduction to the dense rainforest's hat. You can find this just a few hundred meters behind the café. As soon as you enter the rainforest, you will see the clear water surrounded by mossy rocks and tropical grapevines.
If you take a look at the bank, you will notice many local freshwater fish. These guys live in the water hole of the rainforest and probably also hide from the crocodiles further downstream in the brackish water.
There is also a rope swing that is attached to a tree on the other side of the bank!

It is best to swim in the deep section next to the exposed bank. However, we ventured up the stream and found a few nice little bathing areas off the masses.

In Cow Bay, closer to the ferry, but only a stone's throw from Cape Tribulation and Myall Beach, this hostel offers rooms in the safari tent style, which are made of wood and canvas, with high blankets, fans and mosquito nets. All rooms have a view of the rainforest and include access to your swimming pool!
