Through Germany with donkeys: Herdeck couple experiences animal adventures!

Petra and Stefan Lehmcooler from Herdecke are committed to a very special lifestyle. Together with their three miniature donkeys, Leeloo, Lemmi and Luke, they travel through Germany and not only make holiday destinations unsafe, but also bring joy into the lives of many people. This animal travel community accompanies the couple on hikes through beautiful landscapes, from the North Sea to the Allgäu to Berlin.

The Lehm Kühlers' passion for donkeys began about ten years ago, when Petra often went for walks with an acquaintance. When there was an opportunity to take in the animal after the death of Donkey Leeloo's previous owner, they courageously took action and built a stable for the donkeys on their property. Lemmi and Luke joined later, so the group was complete. These donkeys aren't just pets for the couple; they are an integral part of their family and everyday life.

Adventure and volunteering

The Lehmkuhlers regularly go on long hikes of up to 25 kilometers and also enjoy taking part in donkey races. Their donkeys not only offer them joy, but also a balance to their often stressful everyday working life. They radiate a calm and serenity that is appreciated by both the couple and the people they meet.

In addition to their travels, the family does volunteer work. They regularly visit children's hospices and old people's homes with their donkeys. These visits are emotional moments for everyone involved, especially for seriously ill children who find comfort and joy through contact with the animals.

Costs and future plans

However, keeping donkeys is not without costs. The Lehmkuehlers calculate around 100 euros per month, excluding veterinary costs. Despite the financial burden, they see their donkeys as full members of the family. The next holiday plans are already on the agenda: a stay at Möhnesee is already being planned.

Additional donkey experiences

While the Lehm Kühlers are out and about with their donkeys, there are also many other opportunities in Germany to experience donkeys up close. The Asinella donkey farm in Upper Bavaria offers various services. These include donkey lessons, horsemanship courses, animal-assisted therapies, donkey hikes and even special offers such as children's birthday parties in the donkey stable.

Families can also book circus courses with animals, individual donkey experiences and even meditation sessions with donkeys. The donkey farm is particularly active in the Weilheim, Starnberg and Garmisch-Partenkirchen regions and offers a variety of events that appeal to both children and adults.

The combination of joy, nature experiences and emotional support provided by donkeys creates a unique bond between humans and animals and shows how enriching life with these animals can be.
