Nambung Beach Waterfall – Saltwater beach waterfall near Kuta Lombok

Nambung Waterfall is an unusual coastal phenomenon where the rushing tides and waves create a saltwater waterfall right at the tip of Nambung Beach.

Although admittedly not as spectacular as some of the other waterfalls in Lombok, I had to see it for myself when I first heard about it.

How to get to Nambung Beach?

Nambung Beach is located on the southern coast of Lombok Island, west of Kuta Lombok. To get here it is quite a long journey, which can take a little over an hour by motorbike from Kuta Lombok.

If an epic Lombok beach hopping adventure sounds like your kind of trip, then I would definitely suggest adding Nambung Beach Waterfall to the itinerary. Although this will probably be the last one of the day after passing the popular Selong Balanak Beach, Mawi Beach and Mawun Beach.

However, if Google tries to direct you to the end of Torok Beach (Pantai Torok), remember that you have taken the wrong path. The final stretch of coastline requires you to drive up and around the hill to eventually get back down to Nambung Beach. My best advice is to follow the main road and not try to turn down the coast on a dirt road.

Looking for the Pantai Nambung Beach waterfall

Once you arrive at the beach you can park your scooter in the beach village. Walk all the way to the left headland on the beach and follow the rocks to the point. On a good day with big waves, you will immediately see the phenomenon of the waterfall on Lombok Beach.

About Pantai Nambung Waterfall and what to expect

No, Nambung Waterfall is not a constantly flowing waterfall on the beach. In reality it is more of an illusion of waves crashing on the flat rocks. However, under the right conditions, it's a pretty epic spectacle. Among Lombok locals, the beach waterfall is known as Air Terjun Pantai Nambung, which translates to Nambung Beach Waterfall.

I guarantee you that you won't find many tourists here. So if you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Kuta Lombok in favor of a more local adventure, this could be it.

The saltwater pools around Pantai Nambung become shallower at low tide, meaning the “Lombok Beach Waterfall” is larger during this time. At high tide it can be a bit dangerous to go there as the waves actually break into the pools.

Unfortunately we didn't know this when we visited, but we still sat and admired the spectacle from a distance on a clear Lombok day.

Tips for visiting Nambung Beach Waterfall

• Die beste Zeit für einen Besuch ist bei Ebbe und an einem Tag mit großem Wellengang
• Zahlen Sie nicht mehr als 5000 Rupiah für das Abstellen von Fahrrädern
• Achten Sie darauf, bei großem Wellengang zu schwimmen, die größeren Sätze könnten Sie leicht herausziehen
• Bringen Sie einen Schnorchel mit, wenn Sie mit den Schildkröten schwimmen möchten

Nambung beach turtles

Another attraction besides the Nambung Beach waterfall are the resident turtles. The waters of Nambung Beach are a pristine shade of turquoise blue and are home to seemingly hundreds of green sea turtles.

We flew the drone overhead to see how many we could see. To our surprise, we managed to see over 10 turtles all chilling in the same frame! I have included a photo below to see how many turtles live on Nambung Beach.
