New chairs for Michelstadt: Citizens decide on city center comfort!
On May 15, 2025, the city of Michelstadt implemented a new project to improve the quality of stay in its city center. A total of 20 new chairs were set up at the Große Gasse and Stadtgarten locations. These chairs are the result of a citizen survey conducted last year. Citizens were able to choose from three different metal models, which were tested in the town hall, and the majority ultimately chose the black version with armrests.
The new chairs are available to all citizens free of charge and can be moved as long as they do not block traffic areas or are moved to other places. This measure aims to increase the quality and length of stay in the city center. The project is funded by the state program “Future Inner City”, which supports measures that are intended to contribute to the revitalization of urban areas.
Quality of stay in the city
The introduction of the new chairs is part of a larger strategy to respond to the challenges of urban spaces. Different interests come together in urban public spaces, which is becoming increasingly important in view of declining visitor numbers and business closures. In order to counteract these developments, the different user groups should be integrated into urban development regarding Bavaria highlights.
It is crucial that all stakeholders, including tourism and local businesses, pull together. Urban development should be viewed as a community task involving both public and private actors. An authentic city center can be seen as a relevant local economic factor, whereby a higher quality of stay can increase the overall attractiveness of the city.
The measures to improve public space such as the new chairs in Michelstadt offer an opportunity to strengthen citizens' identification with their city. If the population actively participates in urban development, the acceptance and use of such offers increases.
The implementation of the project in Michelstadt shows how targeted measures can contribute to the quality of life in the city center. This is particularly relevant at a time when city life is characterized by a variety of challenges.
