New Discovery Pass 2026: Experience industrial culture in the Ruhr area!
On January 30, 2026, the new 2026 Discovery Pass for the Industrial Heritage Route was published. The publishers are Ruhr Tourismus GmbH (RTG) and the Ruhr Regional Association (RVR). This pass enables those interested to explore the most important places of industrial heritage in the Ruhr area. The accompanying brochure consists of 170 pages and provides comprehensive information on 27 anchor points, 17 panoramas and 13 settlements.
The 2026 Discovery Pass is not only an orientation aid, but also a collection booklet. Visitors can collect stamps at many stations, and after visiting eight locations they will receive a reflective hip bag as a reward at the visitor centers at Zeche Zollverein (Essen) or Halde Hoheward (Herten), while stocks last. In addition to use by bike, car, bus or on foot, the pass also contains digital elements.
Digital formats and additional offers
A digital version of the Discovery Pass is available for smartphones. This contains information about places visited, guided tours, events and gastronomy and is available at www.route-industriekultur.ruhr/service/Entdeckerpass available. The free app “Change of Perspective – Experience the Ruhr Area’s History” can also be downloaded. This offers acoustic access to four experience rooms in Witten, Bochum, Essen and Duisburg.
The 2026 Discovery Pass is available at over 400 contact points in the Ruhr area and as a download. This allows the general population to learn about the region's industrial history in a new way.
The ruhrkultur.card: An offer that promotes culture
In parallel to the discovery pass, the ruhrkultur.card 2026 offers numerous advantages for culture enthusiasts. This annual pass allows free entry or a 50% discount on tickets at 70 partners. The RTG has also gained five new partners for 2026, including the Kunst im Tunnel (KIT) and the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf, which will offer a program at external locations from April 2026 after it is renovated.
Overall, cardholders can take advantage of a variety of cultural offerings from museums, galleries, stages, theaters and events. There are also exclusive events such as curator tours and workshops. The price of the ruhrkultur.card is 55 euros and is valid for one year. Orders can be made via the webshop, by telephone or at selected advance booking points in the Ruhr area and Düsseldorf.
The RTG's close collaboration with the networks of the RuhrKunstMuseen, RuhrBühnen and the Industrial Culture Route creates the opportunity to experience and promote the region's cultural heritage and innovative strength more intensively.
