Extra 1 2025: Cultural highlight at the Archshacht in Marl!

Marl, Deutschland - On June 28, 2025, the city of Marl expects a special event that will take place for the 23rd time: the extra layer. From 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. it offers a diverse program that focuses on industrial culture. The venue is the museum at the Archshacht, which is considered a fascinating place of return. The arch -shaft belongs to the chess facility of the mine Auguste Victoria, which was built between 1928 and 1932 and in the past produced significant amounts of hard coal as well as zinc, lead and silver. Former miners will report on the history of the shaft that evening and thus introduce visitors to the fascinating past of mining (Ruhr Tourismus,,Marl.de).

The extra layer becomes a festival for all senses: musical performances are presented by the mountain chapel Auguste Victoria with traditional brass music and from various acts on the open pop days. The artists include Threepwood'n'strings (Pop Folk), B.Y.O.B. (Blues Rock) and Pott Unplugged (Acoustic Pop). The program is complemented by impressive light and fire shows and the appearance of dance creatively. The organizers attach particular importance to the fact that all contributions come from Marl.

Versatile offers and information

In addition to the cultural program, the extra layer provides visitors with a variety of offers. These include tattoo art and a buddy market that presents antiques and historical mining pieces. Meals are ensured by the Heimatverein Marl e.V., while DJ sounds create an exuberant atmosphere until late at night.

A well-thought-out mobility concept ensures a comfortable journey: Free shuttle buses connect the various venues, and the extra layer ticket also serves as a ticket in public transport in the VRR area. In addition, 13 new cycling routes are available for active visitors. An interactive app will lead the participants through the event and offers an overview of the different program offers and a traffic light display for the loading of the locations.

Ticket information and pricing

The ticket prices are designed as follows: A ticket costs € 22 (reduced € 17 for children and students) in advance, while a price of € 25 is due at the box office. Spielort tickets are available for € 15. For owners of the Ruhr.Topcard and the Ruhrkultur.card there is a special price of € 11 to June 27. Children under the age of six have free admission.

The extra layer is organized by Ruhr Tourismus GmbH in cooperation with the regional association Ruhr and the transport association Rhein-Ruhr. The event also receives generous support from the Ministry of Culture and Science in the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as from the RAG Foundation and RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH.
