ExtraSchicht 2025: Cultural highlight at the Erzschacht in Marl!
On June 28, 2025, the city of Marl is expecting a special event that is taking place for the 23rd time: the ExtraSchicht. It offers a diverse program from 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. that focuses on industrial culture. The venue is the Museum am Erzschacht, which is considered a fascinating place to return. The ore shaft is part of the Auguste Victoria mine, which was built between 1928 and 1932 and in the past produced significant quantities of hard coal as well as zinc, lead and silver. Former miners will report on the history of the shaft this evening, introducing visitors to the fascinating past of mining ( Ruhr Tourism, Marl.de ).
The ExtraSchicht will be a feast for all the senses: musical performances will be presented by the Bergkapelle Auguste Victoria with traditional brass music and by various acts on the Open Pop Stage. Artists include Threepwood'n'Strings (Pop Folk), B.Y.O.B. (Blues Rock) and Pott Unplugged (Acoustic Pop). The program is complemented by impressive light and fire shows as well as a performance by Tanz Kreativ. The organizers attach particular importance to ensuring that all contributions come from Marl.
Diverse offers and information
In addition to the cultural program, ExtraSchicht provides visitors with a wide range of offerings. These include tattoo art as well as a buddy market that showcases antiques and historic mining pieces. Food is provided by the Heimatverein Marl e.V., while DJ sounds ensure a lively atmosphere until late into the night.
A well thought-out mobility concept ensures a comfortable journey: free shuttle buses connect the various venues, and the ExtraSchicht ticket also serves as a ticket for local public transport in the VRR area. There are also 13 new cycle routes available for active visitors. An interactive app will guide participants through the event and provides an overview of the different program offerings as well as a traffic light display of the occupancy of the locations.
Ticket information and pricing
The ticket prices are as follows: In advance, a ticket costs €22 (reduced €17 for children and students), while a price of €25 is due at the box office. Venue tickets are available for €15. For holders of the RUHR.TOPCARD and the RuhrKultur.Card there is a special price of €11 until June 27th. Children under six years of age have free entry.
The ExtraSchicht is organized by Ruhr Tourismus GmbH in collaboration with the Ruhr Regional Association and the Rhine-Ruhr Transport Association. The event also receives generous support from the Ministry of Culture and Science of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as from the RAG Foundation and RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH.
