Norovirus alarm on the MS Artania: 200 passengers sick!
Almost 200 passengers on the MS Artania cruise have been infected with norovirus. The eruption occurred during a trip from Bremerhaven to the Norwegian fjords. According to the Norwegian TV broadcaster NRK, a total of 1,200 passengers are on board. Initially, around 50 cases of the disease were reported, but the number quickly increased so that a total of 197 people were affected by Wednesday, reports the community doctor on the Finnish island of Vestvågøy. Official confirmation of the outbreak came from local authorities, who are carefully monitoring the situation.
The MS Artania is not only a cruise ship, but also known from the ARD series “Crazy for the Sea”. This shows the cult captain Morten Hansen and his team during their travels. Passengers reported the cases of illness on the MS Artania's Facebook page and confirmed the media reports. Some passengers have also expressed concerns that necessary precautionary measures are not being sufficiently observed.
Medical measures on board
To address the situation, an additional doctor and a nurse were sent to the port of Brønnøysund to support the medical team on board. The shipping company has announced that sick passengers will be isolated and no one will be allowed to go ashore to prevent the virus from spreading further. Experts are puzzled about the increase in norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships and suspect that there is a new virus variant that has no basic immunity in the population.
The MS Artania will continue to sail to the North Cape region and plans to return to Bremerhaven on July 19th. Health authorities and Arctic Guide Service Lofoten AS are actively involved in managing the situation to ensure the safety of all passengers.
