Ostalb thrilled: Intern brings cycling and hiking dreams to Stuttgart!
Jürgen Steck, intern at the Tourismus Ostalb stand, had an eventful day at the CMT in Stuttgart today. Despite an 11-minute delay due to traffic jams and parking difficulties, he was able to complete his tasks on time. The Ostalbkreis stand is located in Hall 9, right next to the special exhibition “Bicycle and Hiking Trips”.
Steck informed numerous visitors about the attractive cycling and hiking opportunities in the Ostalb. Among the materials he distributed were the “Hiking Tours” brochure and a flyer about camping and RV parks. The region offers a wide selection, including 16 RV parks and 16 campsites, five of which are in Ellenberg.
New tourism offers and regional development
A central theme was the new Ostalb cycle route, which stretches over 330 kilometers and covers an altitude of 2,300 meters. This was presented by Richard Glasses, one of Steck's interlocutors. The cycling tour will be opening as part of an upcoming state horticultural show. Signage is currently being worked on to make the route attractive for future visitors.
Heike Faustmann, an interested visitor, was looking for short bike tours for her motorhome vacation and received the magazine “Bicycle Tours in the Ostalbkreis”, which includes 21 different tour suggestions. At the end of the fair, Steck plans to distribute 1,500 copies of the bike tour magazine, 900 hiking magazines, 500 hiking pocket guides and 800 camping brochures.
Cultural highlights and community without borders
The Ostalbkreis presents itself not only through its attractive leisure activities, but also through valuable cultural aspects. The region is represented in Hall 6 under the motto “Swabian Ostalb”, with the focus being on the upcoming State Garden Show in Ellwangen. Nils Degen, Managing Director of Landesgartenschau GmbH, answered many questions on site. Some Ostälblers followed the events particularly closely, including the mayor of Lauchheim.
The topic of sustainable tourism was also discussed. Ulrich Holzbaur, a university professor, found out about tourist offers in Germany. Steck noted the respect he has for his colleagues at CMT and plans to go to bed early to rest up for the next day of the show. Not without a humorous hint, he forgot to get a souvenir for his colleague Ulrike.
A variety of activities in the Ostalb
The Ostalb as a travel destination not only offers cycling and hiking opportunities, but also historical cultural treasures from the times of the Celts, Romans, Alemanni and Staufers. The region is ideal for various leisure activities and has established itself as a popular destination for hiking and cycling enthusiasts.
The cycle paths in the Ostalb run along picturesque river valleys of Kocher, Jagst and Rems and offer varied low mountain landscapes. Tours for trekking, touring and electric bikes as well as suitable routes for mountain bikers are also offered. Nature lovers can also enjoy the diverse cultural landscape with its intact natural beauty while hiking, ranging from hills and rocks to mystical caves.
Visitors can also look forward to several barrier-free hiking trails, themed trails on history and culture, as well as numerous long-distance hiking trails and circular tours. In the Ostalbkreis there are three “green path – adventure tours” that enable cyclists and hikers to get to know the rural areas and forestry projects better. The farms, historical sights and dining options located along these trails add to the attractiveness of this region.
