Prices for online trips: Save up to 80% with the right device!
price differences in online travel books can be a significant cost factor for travelers. A current examination of the Chamber of Labor (AK) shows that the prices for identical offers can vary by up to 80 percent depending on the end device. The test was carried out on three large travel platforms: Booking.com, fluege.de and opodo.at.
Overall, the prices with 22 different devices were recorded, including smartphones, tablets and notebooks. The booking tests took place in several regions of Austria, including Vienna, Styria and Tyrol. An example received special attention that shows how clear the price differences are: a hotel in Corfu, which was to be booked for two people for four days in May, cost 629 euros via a notebook, while the price on other devices was only 350 euros - a difference of 279 euros.
inequalities and lack of transparency
Interestingly, there were only constant prices over all tested devices at a hotel in Innsbruck. Gabriele Zgubic from the AK expressed that there are no recognizable patterns for the price differences, which also makes the situation more difficult for travelers. The AK therefore calls for clearer rules and more transparency in the pricing of the online providers. In order to benefit from the best prices, the Chamber of Labor recommends travelers to compare prices with several devices and from different locations. This can help discover the best offers and achieve considerable savings. The topic of the price differences in online bookings was also taken up by noe.orf.at and underlines the importance of informed booking decisions.
