Prices for online travel: Save up to 80% with the right device!

Price differences when booking online travel can be a significant cost factor for travelers. A current study by the Chamber of Labor (AK) shows that prices for identical offers can vary by up to 80 percent depending on the device. The test was carried out on three major travel platforms: booking.com, fluege.de and opodo.at.

In total, the prices were recorded on 22 different devices, including smartphones, tablets and notebooks. The booking tests took place in several regions of Austria, including Vienna, Styria and Tyrol. An example that received particular attention shows how clear the price differences are: a hotel in Corfu that was to be booked for two people for four days in May cost 629 euros on a notebook, while the price on other devices was only 350 euros - a difference of 279 euros.

Inequalities and lack of transparency

Interestingly, only one hotel in Innsbruck had consistent prices across all devices tested. Gabriele Zgubic from the AK said that there are no discernible patterns for the price differences, which makes the situation even more difficult for travelers. The AK is therefore calling for clearer rules and more transparency in the pricing of online providers.

To benefit from the best prices, the Chamber of Labor recommends travelers compare prices across multiple devices and from different locations. This can help discover the best deals and make significant savings. The issue of price differences for online bookings was also raised by noe.orf.at taken up and underlines the importance of informed booking decisions.
