Watch out cyclists: 14 spectacular routes in Vëlosummer 2025!
The summer of 2025 in Luxembourg will be all about bicycle, with the upcoming "Vëlosummer". This event makes cyclists explore the country and its regions on two wheels. From July 19 to August 24, 2025, 14 accessible tours with a total length of over 500 kilometers are offered, which is one week longer than in the previous year. The first details of the routes were presented by Tourismus Minister Eric Thill and Minister Minister Yuriko Backes.
The "Vëlosummer" promotes cyclo tourism in Luxembourg and offers a variety of tours that lead through the breathtaking landscape of the country. However, only four of these routes are available over the entire period, while the remaining ten are limited. The official starting shot will be given on July 20 at the event "Alles Op de Vëlo" in Mersch.
tours and new highlights
A total of 14 routes are available to cyclists, which are distributed across the entire country and offer different levels of difficulty. The new tours include the "Wëlle Westen", "City Discovery", "Péckvillchen" and "Mamerdall". It is interesting that some of the popular tours such as the "Castle Tour" and the "Mëllerdall Tour" are no longer on the program this year. These adjustments are intended to help cyclists offer new, attractive ways to explore Luxembourg.
The information on the route tours, the highlights and the time windows are available on the website and on the Visitluxembourg app. Brochures are also ready to enable easy planning. For those who do not have their own bike, bike rental are set up along many routes.
Special actions and further development of the cycle path network
An exciting highlight of the "Vëlosummer" is the "Vëlosummer" challenge. Participants have the opportunity to drive off all 14 routes and answer quiz questions to win a coveted “Maillot Jaune”. In the previous year, 80 people won the "Maillot Jaune", while a total of 31,000 people took part in this initiative. However, cyclists should make sure that residents, public transport and emergency services have access to the blocked roads.
The cycle path network in Luxembourg is steadily expanded. Transport Minister Yuriko Backes presented current and future projects with the aim of creating around 20 kilometers of new cycle paths by June 2026. The construction of another 32 kilometers is also planned, including 8 kilometers between Alzingen and Hassel and 3.8 kilometers between Kleinbettingen and Steinfort, which should connect to a bike path to Arlon.
Behind the idea of the "Vëlosummer" is the invitation to discover the hidden treasures and impressive landscapes of Luxembourg. Practical information and details about the routes can be found on the website and cards can be ordered. In addition, bicycle services such as "Bed+Bike" are available for safe storage and "Move We Carry" for luggage transport, which makes the tours even more pleasant for the participants.
For those interested, Eric Thill and Yuriko Backes offer to be available as "Guide for One Day", an interesting opportunity to explore the most beautiful corners in the country together. Registration for this is possible via guideforoneday.lu.
Overall, the “Vëlosummer” in 2025 invites all bike enthusiasts to experience and actively enjoy the diverse nature and cultural highlights of Luxembourg.
