Attention cyclists: 14 spectacular routes in Vëlosummer 2025!

The summer of 2025 in Luxembourg will be all about cycling, with the upcoming “Vëlosummer”. This event brings cyclists to explore the country and its regions on two wheels. From July 19 to August 24, 2025, 14 drivable tours with a total length of over 500 kilometers will be offered, which is a week longer than last year. The first details of the routes were presented by Tourism Minister Eric Thill and Mobility Minister Yuriko Backes.

The “Vëlosummer” promotes cyclo-tourism in Luxembourg and offers a variety of tours that lead through the country's breathtaking landscape. However, only four of these routes are available for the entire period, while the remaining ten are time-limited. The official starting shot will be given on July 20th at the “Alles op de Vëlo” event in Mersch.

Tours and new highlights

A total of 14 routes are available to cyclists, spread across the entire country and offering different levels of difficulty. The new tours include the “Wëlle Westen”, “City Discovery”, “Péckvillchen” and “Mamerdall”. It is interesting that some of the popular tours such as the “Castle Tour” and the “Mëllerdall Tour” are no longer in the program this year. These adjustments are intended to help provide cyclists with new, attractive ways to explore Luxembourg.

The information about the routes, the highlights and the time slots is available on the website and in the VisitLuxembourg app. Brochures are also available to make planning easy. For those who don't own a bike, there are bike rentals along many routes.

Special campaigns and further development of the cycle path network

An exciting highlight of the “Vëlosummer” is the “Vëlosummer” challenge. Participants have the opportunity to ride all 14 routes and answer quiz questions to win a coveted “Maillot jaune”. Last year, 80 people won the “Maillot jaune”, while a total of 31,000 people took part in this initiative. However, cyclists should ensure that residents, public transport and emergency services have access to the closed roads.

The cycle path network in Luxembourg is constantly being expanded. Transport Minister Yuriko Backes presented current and future projects with the aim of creating around 20 kilometers of new cycle paths by June 2026. The construction of a further 32 kilometers is also planned, including 8 kilometers between Alzingen and Hassel and 3.8 kilometers between Kleinbettingen and Steinfort, which will connect to a cycle path to Arlon.

Behind the idea of “Vëlosummer” is the invitation to cyclists to discover the hidden treasures and impressive landscapes of Luxembourg. Practical advice and route details can be found on the website and maps can be ordered. Bicycle services such as “bed+bike” for safe storage and “Move We Carry” for luggage transport are also available, making the tours even more pleasant for participants.

For those interested, Eric Thill and Yuriko Backes offer to be available as a “guide for one day”, an interesting opportunity to explore the most beautiful corners of the country together. Registration is possible via guideforoneday.lu.

Overall, “Vëlosummer” 2025 invites all bicycle enthusiasts to experience and actively enjoy the diverse nature and cultural highlights of Luxembourg.
