Selb is breaking new ground: modern urban development for tourism and transport!
The city of Selb is facing significant redesign measures as part of urban development, with a particular focus on tourism, transport connections and the upgrading of the city entrance. The urban redevelopment areas “Selb-West 1” and “Selb-West 2” are currently being actively developed hochfranken-live.de reported.
The first steps have already been taken in the Selb-West 1 urban area, such as the dismantling of older buildings. A modern mobile home parking space has been set up, and five additional parking spaces as well as the construction of a boarding house or motel with around 50 rooms are planned in the future. Optionally, gastronomy will also be integrated into the concept, while overnight cabins are planned to promote cycle tourism. This area benefits from its location on national cycle paths and in close proximity to the motorway.
Traffic realignment
As part of the development of Selb-West 2, a traffic reorganization is also being sought. This includes, among other things, the construction of a roundabout that connects the new urban areas “Neue Mitte Selb” and the planned Factory Outlet Center (FOC). Heinestrasse should be expanded as a central traffic axis to the city center in order to promote both car and bicycle traffic. The measures are carried out within the framework of existing development plans with the aim of modern, sustainable urban redevelopment.
The city council took note of the reuse concept at a meeting. This concept will be adapted to meet the specific needs of the city before final coordination with the government of Upper Franconia. Wolfgang Kreil (CSU) brought forward a proposal to rename the boarding house to “residential/commercial”, and the demarcation towards Heinestrasse and Bahnhofstrasse should also be revised.
Optimization of the cityscape
In addition to the renovation projects, extensive developments in traffic routing are planned. Variant 1 of the new traffic routing stipulates that Ludwigstrasse remains accessible throughout. A one-way street solution will be implemented with access from the market square and exit to Schillerstrasse. The traffic regulations in the crossing streets do not change in order to ensure smooth traffic management.
In order to further optimize the cityscape, numerous new tree plantings are planned. These are intended to give the street space a friendlier atmosphere. A two-row avenue will be created in the center of Ludwigstrasse, while the edge areas will have rows of trees planted on one side. Underground trenches to irrigate the trees and buffer heavy rain events are also planned to increase environmental sustainability.
To ensure accessibility, a level street space with barrier-free access to buildings will be arranged. The streetscape will be paved with granite to create a uniform and harmonious appearance. The renewal of street lighting and the introduction of new equipment such as seating, bicycle parking and information boards are part of this comprehensive urban development package self.de.
