Sepp Greil celebrates 60 years with exquisite enjoyment and prominent company!
Sepp Greil, a respected hotelier and wine connoisseur, recently celebrated his 60th birthday in his hotel in Söll am Wilden Kaiser. The celebration was a culinary feast where guests were treated to exquisite food and fine wines personally selected by Greil. Among the guests were prominent personalities such as Maximilian Riedel, Peter Morandell, Georg Platzer, René Trummler, Werner Magedler and Mario Gerber. The event included not only delicious dishes but also musical entertainment, making the evening an unforgettable experience.
In his speech, Greil emphasized that hospitality was a calling for him. The wines served were particularly outstanding, including specialties from double magnums and even a 6 liter bottle of Mehusalem. The creative menu was created by guest chef Bojan Brbe and chef Sandro Greiderer and skilfully combined traditional and innovative elements. The live music gave the celebration additional momentum, and Greil described the festival as a thank you to his family, friends and companions.
Exclusive wine tastings in the “Riedel Room@Greil”
Sepp Greil also runs the unique “Riedel Room@Greil”, where wines are tasted from special Riedel grape variety glasses. The hotelier dealt intensively with the importance of glasses for enjoying wine and emphasized that the glass is crucial for whether a guest orders a second glass of wine. Wines are often served in inadequate glasses, which can negatively affect their taste. This is particularly important in the catering industry, where sommeliers often have no influence on the choice of glass.
Greil regularly hosts exclusive wine tastings, including a 100 Parker Points Wine Party showcasing 38 highly rated wines. A variety of glasses are used, including Riesling and Montrachet glasses, to ideally showcase the different tastes. He has also purchased around 1,000 wine glasses as well as numerous carafes and decanters for his events.
The art of carafing and decanting
Proper carafing and decanting can remove sediment from the wine while enriching it with oxygen, which has a significant impact on the taste experience. The wines tasted in the “Riedel Room@Greil” include the Ao Yun 2014 from high altitudes in China, which offers complex aromas.
Söll, located approximately 30 km from Kitzbühel, may be considered a lesser-known travel destination, but it offers unparalleled culinary experiences, highlighted by Greil's passion for wine and hospitality. At a time when exclusive dining experiences are increasingly valued, Greil remains a pioneer in upscale hotel and wine culture.
