Development of Thurgau Tourismus

Thurgau Tourism has developed into a destination management organization (DMO) for the Vacation Region Thurgau-Bodensee in recent years. Rolf Müller, who has headed the company for 10 years, reported on the “DMO 2023” project, which has been implemented since 2019. This project includes the management of tourism information offices in Arbon, Kreuzlingen and Frauenfeld as well as the development of offer in the regions. The aim is to recognize and serve the needs of members and guests faster and to use what Thurgauer Zeitung emphasized.

During the summer season, Thurgau Tourismus can now be reached seven days a week. However, the financing is challenging because there is no legal basis for tourism and the contributions are mostly voluntary. The canton provides CHF 1.2 million annually for the plan period 2021 to 2024, provided that the Grand Council approves this. In addition, the municipalities make voluntary contributions that are based on size and tourist importance with a target value of CHF 390,000.

Currently 76 out of 80 Thurgau communities are members of Thurgau Tourismus. The accommodation companies also pay voluntary contributions per logging night, whereby 1.50 francs apply to the hotel industry and CHF 0.80 for parahotellery. In 2022, the tourist service providers made around CHF 400,000 on contributions. With the conclusion of the DMO project, 430,000 francs are expected to contribute.
