More expensive travel destinations and price comparisons
In contrast, there are countries such as the Netherlands, Sweden and especially Switzerland, where holidaymakers have to pay more than in Germany. For example, a trip to:

- Schweden: 8% teurer
- Luxemburg: 9% teurer
- Belgien: 11% teurer
- Dänemark: 28% teurer
- Norwegen: 25% teurer
- Island: 49% teurer
- Schweiz: 52% teurer
Price levels are based on Eurostat purchasing power parities, which means that the costs of services in different countries are compared. An example illustrates this: 100 euros for a service in Germany corresponds to 48 euros in Albania, which represents a saving of 52%, while the same 100 euros in Italy is only worth 94 euros, i.e. 6% cheaper.
The price level surveys were carried out in March 2025, also highlighting other attractive holiday destinations such as Montenegro (-42%), Portugal (-35%) and Turkey (-31%). Destatis reports that the costs in these countries are only half as high as in Germany.
So vacationers should carefully check the price differences between European countries to find the best deals and plan unforgettable trips without breaking the bank.
