Vacation is becoming more expensive: Kinzigtäler save and travel less in 2025!
The current discussion about rising holiday costs presents a worrying picture for travelers in Germany. According to that Black Forest messenger A fifth of those surveyed plan to spend less money on their vacation this year than last year. This development seems to be influencing travel agencies in Kinzigtal, who report unsettled customers who are increasingly questioning their joy of traveling after the corona pandemic.
Additionally shows the ADAC tourism study 2025, that 24 percent of Germans have to make do with a smaller budget, which has a significant impact on vacation planning. Despite the challenges, 58 percent of Germans took a vacation trip in 2024, which is similar to pre-crisis levels. Almost 60 percent of those surveyed are planning to take at least one longer vacation by 2025.
Holiday behavior under pressure
The study also shows a decline in the joy of traveling: 32 percent of those surveyed said they wanted to forego a trip altogether in 2025, which is double the number in 2022. Only around a fifth of those surveyed are willing to pay a premium for more sustainable offers.
There is also a growing awareness of overcrowded holiday destinations. Many respondents support measures such as entry fees or capacity restrictions. 43 percent of travelers would like to choose Germany as their travel destination, while 45 percent long for a vacation in other European countries. Compared to 2022, another 50 percent of Germans are aiming for a vacation in their own country.
Tourism under changes
The majority of travelers are satisfied with their vacations, especially with the booking process and service. 67 percent prefer individual trips, while 32 percent book package trips. The trend towards early booking is increasing as travel becomes easier to plan again. Despite the positive developments in tourism, which has recovered after the challenges of the pandemic, risks due to the economic situation are still present.
The ADAC emphasizes the need to keep holiday costs affordable and to avoid an increase in these costs. From a political perspective, a review of air transport fees and measures to compensate for the rising CO2 price are called for in order to ensure the attractiveness of travel in the long term.
