Hiking adventure at the Wiesner Viaduct: Discover the Landwasser world!
The Wiesner Viaduct, the highest structure on the Rhaetian Railway (RhB), is now once again attracting the attention of tourists and hikers. With a height of almost 90 meters, it towers over the already well-known Landwasser Viaduct by an impressive 25 meters. This fascinating structure can be traversed on foot, with the Sky Walk running parallel to the rail as a pedestrian walkway, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding natural landscape.
The Landwasserwelt, a new tourist project, opened this summer. The aim of this project is to present the natural and cultural landscape around the viaduct in an experience-oriented and sustainable way. There are numerous attractions in the Landwasser World that are intended to both delight and inform visitors.
Attractions and offers
One of the new offers in the region is the viaduct shuttle, which serves the route between Filisur and Alvaneu every day and includes the Schmitten stop. This transportation option makes exploring the area much more accessible for visitors. There is also the Landwasser Express, which makes it easier for less mobile guests to access the foot of the Landwasser Viaduct.
A kiosk with a barbecue area and seating under the bridge ensures enjoyable breaks. Those interested in flora can explore the Ansaina waterway, which follows ancient irrigation systems and passes through areas home to rare plant species such as the lady's slipper. Three farms along the way – Ranch Farsox, Biohof Las Sorts and Hof Accola – invite guests to talk to the farmers and learn more about local agriculture.
Tours and events
The Albula Railway Museum in Bergün is available for anyone who would like to learn more about the history of the Rhaetian Railway. Here you not only learn a lot about the history of the railway line, but you can also immerse yourself in a sound archive with stories from former railway workers. From now on, a historic train will run twice a day between Filisur and Davos Platz until the end of October.
In the summer months, the Zug-Landwasser Interest Group (IGZL) offers free tours of the Wiesner Viaduct every Thursday, which provide interesting details about the construction of the Davos-Filisur line, which was carried out under difficult conditions over 100 years ago. These tours take place from July 3rd to September 25th, 2025 at 2:15 p.m. and last approximately 1 ¼ hours. The meeting point for the tours is the Davos Wiesen train station, although no registration is required.
The region also offers numerous accommodations in Filisur and Bergün, with prices starting at 158 euros per night. Various catering options in the area provide culinary delights, including the Züga-Beizli and the Bistro Büfèt in the Albula Railway Museum.
Further information about the attractions and offers in the Landwasserwelt is available on the Landwasserwelt website.
In summary, the Wiesner Viaduct and the neighboring Landwasserwelt, with their diverse experiences and offerings, are an excellent destination for nature and culture-loving travelers who want to discover the beauty of the Swiss Alps.
