An up-to-date guide to the hike to Pelverata Falls in Snug Tiers Nature Recreation Area, Tasmania. Covers everything you need to know about how to get here and what to expect from this Tassie waterfall.
Pelverata Falls is an impressively tall waterfall that plunges 114 meters into a vertical gorge carved by Pelverata Creek. This is considered one of Tasmania's highest waterfalls and, as it is fairly easy to reach, is definitely worth a short day trip from Hobart or the Huon Valley.
How to get to Pelverata Falls?
Pelverata Falls is located in the Snug Tiers Natural Recreation Area. The trailhead is approximately 35 kilometers (40 minutes) south of Hobart or just 15 kilometers (20 minutes) from Huonville.
To get here you have to head towards the small rural community of Pelverata on Pelverata Road. You can access the trailhead parking lot from either the north (Sandfly) or the south by turning from Woodstock.
I have pinned the exact location of the parking lot at the Pelverata Falls trailhead below, which is accurate.
I drove from Huonville to the Waterfall Trail and turned left off the Channel Highway onto Pelverata Road. This stretch of road is mostly unpaved (9.2 kilometers) but is well maintained and easily manageable with any 2WD or large van. The car park is 1km down Crosswells Road, which is also unpaved but well maintained. There are also several blue signs pointing the way to the waterfall, with adequate phone reception the entire way.
The parking lot has space for approximately 10 vehicles.
Unfortunately I can't say much about the condition of the road coming from the north. However, it looks like it is unsealed the entire way and also quite windy.

The Pelverata Falls Walk
The Pelverata Falls Track is a fairly easy, dog-friendly waterfall trail. The return journey is 6 kilometers, the route is wide, well maintained and without strenuous steep sections.
At the parking lot you will find a signposted route marker. The waterfall hike begins with rolling hills through dry sclerophyll forest and follows the edge of a private road for about the first kilometer.

About halfway the path splits with a large, blue signpost showing the way to the waterfall.
The final section of the Pelverata Falls trail gets a little rocky as there is a steel handrail screwed into the rock to help you stand up. This section is not at all too difficult for generally fit people and does not require any technical elements.

After about 3 kilometers you will emerge at a small wooden viewing platform just below the Pelverata Falls. It is also possible to walk to the base of the waterfall by taking a detour just before the observation deck. However, this can be a bit slippery and requires some easy climbing over wet rocks.

Pelverata Falls
Pelverata Falls is a scenic waterfall cascading down a vertical dolerite gorge. Its source is Pelverata Creek, which relies on rainfall to produce a decent flow. This makes this waterfall most impressive after heavy rains and can dry up completely in the dry summer months.

At 114 meters, Pelverata Falls is one of the highest waterfalls in Tasmania. But if the waterfalls aren't gushing when you visit, don't worry, the scenic gorge and forest surroundings are still worth a visit.
Across the gorge, visitors can also see Slippery Falls, with the best views being further up from the overlook. This waterfall is less impressive than Pelverata Falls and is more dependent on rainfall. Unfortunately it was almost completely dry when we visited.
