Hike to the Pelverata Falls in Tasmania
Hike to the Pelverata Falls in Tasmania
A current guide for the hike to the Pelverata Falls in Snug Tier's Nature Recreation Area, Tasmania. Contains everything you need to know, how you come here and what you can expect from this Tassie waterfall.
pelverata Falls is an impressively high waterfall that falls 114 meters into a vertical gorge, which was carved by the Pelverata Creek. This is considered one of the highest waterfalls of Tasmania and, since it is quite easy to reach, is definitely a short day trip from Hobart or the Huon Valley.
How do you get to the pelverata if?
pelverata Falls is located in the Snug Tier's nature recreation area. The starting point of the hiking trail is about 35 kilometers (40 minutes) south of Hobart or only 15 kilometers (20 minutes) from Huonville.
To get here, you have to drive towards the small rural community of Pelverata on the Pelverata Road. You can reach the parking lot at the starting point either from the north (Sandfly) or from the south by turning from Woodstock.
I attached the exact position of the parking lot at the starting point of the Pelverata Fall, which is exactly.
I drove from Huonville to the waterfall path and turned down from Channel Highway to the Pelverata Road. This section of the street is largely not paved (9.2 kilometers), but well maintained and easy to manage with every 2WD or large van. The parking lot is 1 km down the Crosswells Road, which is also not paved but is well maintained. There are also several blue signs that show the way to the waterfall with sufficient telephone reception all over the way.
The parking lot offers space for approx. 10 vehicles.
Unfortunately, I can't say much about the condition of the street coming from the north. However, it looks like it is not sealed all over the way and also quite windy.

Hiking route and back
Duration: Officially, slightly back in less than 2 hours
Height: 290 meters in total
Pretty simple
The Pelverata Falls Track is a fairly simple, dog -friendly waterfall path. The way back is 6 kilometers, the route is wide, well maintained and without strenuous steep passages.
You will find a signposted path marker at the parking lot. The waterfall hike begins with gentle hills through dry Hartlaubwald and follows the first kilometer to the edge of a private road.

About halfway the path is shared with a large, blue signpost that shows the way to the waterfall.
The last section of the Pelverata Falls route becomes a little rocky, since a steel handrail is screwed into the rocks to help you get up. This section is not too difficult for generally fit people and does not require any technical elements.

After about 3 kilometers, they appear on a small wooden viewing platform directly below the Pelverata cases. It is also possible to go to the foot of the waterfall by making a detour shortly before the viewing platform. However, this can be a bit slippery and requires a slight climbing over wet rocks.

Pelverata Falls
waterfall height: 114 meters
pelverata Falls is a picturesque waterfall that falls a vertical dolerite gorge. Its source is the Pelverata Creek, which is dependent on rain to create a decent river. As a result, this waterfall is most impressive after heavy rain and can dry out completely in the dry summer months.

At 114 meters, Pelverata is one of the highest waterfalls of Tasmania. But if the waterfalls do not bubble during your visit, don't worry, the picturesque gorge and the forest environment are still worth a visit.
On the other side of the gorge, visitors can also see the slipping, with the best view to have a little further up from the viewpoint. This waterfall is less impressive than the Pelverata Falls and more dependent on the precipitation. Unfortunately it was almost completely dry during our visit.
