Vienna rejoices: 15% more overnight stays in April 2025!

The latest key figures for Vienna tourism were published on Thursday, showing a remarkable increase in overnight stays in April 2025. A total of 5.4 million guest overnight stays were recorded, which represents an impressive increase of 15 percent compared to April 2024. These positive developments can apparently also be attributed to the late Easter, which attracted many travelers to the city.

What is particularly noteworthy is that of the 5.4 million overnight stays, 1.8 million took place in Vienna's hotels and guesthouses alone. The statistics also indicate that Vienna has recorded around 5.36 million overnight stays so far this year, which corresponds to an increase of nine percent compared to the same period last year.

Origin of the guests

The origin of guests from the top ten markets shows interesting trends and growth in different countries:

  • Österreich: 301.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 3 Prozent)
  • Deutschland: 367.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 19 Prozent)
  • Italien: 105.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 1 Prozent)
  • USA: 102.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 32 Prozent)
  • Großbritannien: 68.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 3 Prozent)
  • Spanien: 49.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 33 Prozent)
  • Frankreich: 51.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 1 Prozent)
  • Polen: 34.000 Übernachtungen (Minus 7 Prozent)
  • Schweiz: 50.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 1 Prozent)
  • Ukraine: 26.000 Übernachtungen (Plus 43 Prozent)

The average hotel room occupancy recorded in April 2025 was around 77 percent, an increase compared to 72 percent in 2024. Bed occupancy, at 59.4 percent, is also above the previous year's figure of 55 percent.

Annual development and sales figures

From January to April 2025, room occupancy was stable at around 59 percent (2024: 59 percent), while bed occupancy was 45.4 percent (2024: 45.1 percent). In addition, April 2025 recorded an increase to 80,700 hotel beds, which corresponds to an increase of 5,700 beds or 7.5 percent compared to the same month last year.

The economic key figures are also encouraging: the net overnight turnover in March 2025 amounted to a total of 87,201,000 euros, which corresponds to an increase of 2 percent compared to March 2024. For the first three months of this year, the companies were able to generate overnight sales of around 226 million euros, which corresponds to an increase of seven percent compared to the same period last year.

The data about tourism in Vienna is based on the Accommodation statistics for the municipality of Vienna. These primary statistics include both the monthly overnight stay statistics, which record guest arrivals and overnight stays as well as their country of origin, as well as the annual inventory statistics, which prepare information about the available guest rooms and beds.

Overall, the analysis shows that Vienna continues to be a popular travel destination that is gaining ground in international competition and is characterized by positive developments in the tourism sector. The developments of the last few months could reflect fundamental trends in travel behavior.
