I only did 20 of the 50 things that the National Trust has to do before you are 12: shit in London!

Two years ago I came across the enchanting campaign "50 Things to do Before you're 11 ¾" of the National Trust, which was developed to take more children onto the street. I read the list (below) and to my dismay found that I had completed less than half of the list.

As I said at the time, growing up in London is shit.

I was reminded of the list of 50 things you have to do before you are 12 a few days ago. At the time I was half a height of a tree on the Little Beach of Tanna Island. Only two weeks and I was closer to nature than in the two years since I read the list for the first time. Obviously life in London is also shit.

So I swore to do as many of the following points as possible before I return to my dusty, smoky hometown next year. (Number 11 becomes particularly tricky because I haven't got much further since the filming of Born to be Wild).

This new undertaking will not be a rehearsed attempt to check off things; Rather a subliminal memory to enjoy the stupid little things in life.

For some there is a second chance with their own children to experience the little miracles of a long past time. For most, however, the insignia of modern life exclude these simple joys.

This article is only a memory that it is important to take time to be outside, regardless of whether you travel or not, whether you have children or not. It sounds twee, but it is also true.
