Where is the Loboc River?
The Loboc River is a jungle river that meanders from Carmen near the Chocolate Hills to the beaches of Southern Bohol. For those who want to take a cruise on the Loboc River, you can go to the small town of Tay Tay.
Due to its growing popularity, this once small, quiet river town is seeing more and more resorts and tourist-oriented restaurants and activities. There are a few different boats offering cruises down the river and also SUPs for rent.
To get to Tay Tay, it takes about an hour and 20 minutes by tricycle. Depending on traffic in Tagbilaran, allow about an hour if you want to drive yourself here.
Alternatively, many tourists visiting Bohol simply book a land tour, which includes a full-day guided tour and transportation to all of Bohol's highlights, including:
- Kreuzfahrt auf dem Loboc-Fluss
- The Chocolate Hills (lesen Sie meinen Leitfaden zu ATVs in den Chocolate Hills)
- Tarsier-Schutzgebiet
- Vom Menschen geschaffener Wald
- Baclayon-Kirche
Although the price online is very cheap, it is possible to negotiate a cheaper price on the street. Just check what's included in advance. In my opinion, this tour is definitely worth the money, especially if you plan on seeing most of the other highlights anyway.

How to get a river boat
As soon as you arrive, many locals will probably ask you whether you want a “river cruise” or a “boat trip”. The small bamboo terminal is just across the Loay Bridge from the main part of the city. This is the official place where you can purchase a ticket for a Loboc River cruise from the various providers. You can see it on the map above.

Cruise prices on the Loboc River 2020
There are several boat or “banca” operators. They're essentially just big rafts being pushed down the river by another small boat behind them. Entry costs 150 pesos. However, most also offer a lunch buffet on the boat. This costs 200-300 pesos per person.

Cruise on the Loboc River
In my opinion, the Loboc River is one of the most beautiful rivers in the Philippines. The banks are surrounded by overhanging palm trees and local fishermen walk down the forest banks.
Once the boat leaves the dock, stop at small river banks where singing groups perform and dance. Although this felt a bit like a tourist trap at first, it was nice to hear that these groups are paid for their performances and overall it added a nice cultural aspect to the tour.

After about an hour the banca reaches Busay Falls. Don't get too excited. These waterfalls are spectacularly unassuming. However, it is still a beautiful place that represents a worthwhile turning point.
Zipline nearby
A zip line was also recently installed that goes over the Loboc River. Although I didn't check it out, it looked pretty impressive. If you decide to give it a try, let me know how it was!
