Where is the river Loboc?
The Loboc River is a jungle river that meanders from Carmen near the Chocolate Hills to the beaches of Southern Bohol. For those who want to take part in a cruise on the Loboc River, you can go to the small town of Tay Tay.
Due to the growing popularity, there are more and more resorts and touristy restaurants and activities in this once small, quiet river city. There are a few different boats that offer cruises down the river and also SUPs for rent.
To get to Tay Tay, it takes about an hour and 20 minutes with the tricycle. Depending on the traffic in Tagbilaran, you can expect about an hour if you want to drive here yourself.
Alternatively, many tourists book Bohol, simply a land tour that includes an all -day guided tour and transportation on all highlights of Bohol, including:
- cruise on the Loboc River
- The Chocolate Hills (Read my guide to ATVS in the Chocolate Hills)
- Tarsier protection area
- forest created by humans
- Baclayon Church
Although the online price is very cheap, it is possible to negotiate a cheaper price on the street. Just check what is included in advance. In my opinion, this tour is definitely worth your money, especially if you plan to look at most of the other highlights anyway.
If you are in Cebu and plan your Bohol trip, you can alternatively look at this private trip from Cebu to Bohol, which includes a journey on the Loboc river!
How to get a river boat
You will surely be asked by many locals when you arrive whether you would like a "river cruise" or a "boat trip". The small bamboo terminal is located directly above the Loay Bridge from the main part of the city. There are several boat or "Banca" operators. They are essentially only large rafts that are pushed down the river by another small boat behind. Entry costs 150 pesos. However, most also offer a lunch buffet on the boat. This costs 200-300 pesos per person.

Cruise on the Loboc River
The Loboc River is one of the most beautiful rivers of the Philippines. The banks are surrounded by overhanging palm trees and local fishermen go down the forest bank.
As soon as the boat leaves the dock, they stick to small river banks where vocal groups occur and dance. Although this initially felt a little like a tourist trap, it was nice to hear that these groups were paid for their appearances, and overall the tour added a beautiful cultural aspect.

After about an hour the Banca reaches Busay Falls. Don't be too excited. These waterfalls are spectacularly inconspicuous. However, it is still a beautiful place that represents a rewarding turning point.
Zipline nearby
Recently, a rope slide was also installed that leads over the Loboc River. Although I didn't check it, it looked pretty impressive. If you decide to try it out, let me know how it was!
