The Magpupfungko Rock Pools are on the east coast of the island of Siargao in the Philippines. It is about 40 minutes from the main tourist center of General Luna. The next city is a pilar.

How do I get here

So how do we get here? You have two main options to get to the Magputzungko Rock Pools that I described below.

Option 1: Siargao-Landtour

For those who have little time, or if you would rather spend the day to explore the best highlights on Siargao from a local guide, the very popular "Siargao Land Tour" is simply unbeatable. This is the most popular tour on the island, for good reason.

The Siargao Land Tour not only visits the Magpupupungko Rock Pools, but you will also see the epic Kokosnussstraße and the cablewing on the Maasin river.

Option 2: Regardless of Magpupungko

The second way to get to Magpupungko is to do this independently. You need a motorcycle for this.

This is how I explored all the highlights on Siargao Island.

You can pick up a daily rent in General Luna for 250-350 pesos. Remember that you always have to act to get a fair price.

directions

The trip to the Rock Pools takes about 40 minutes and follows the Dapa General Luna Road, past the fantastic palm viewpoint and down the famous Palmenstrasse. At the intersection on the Siargao Eagles’s statue, turn right onto the Siargao CircumFerential Road.

Follow it past the famous coconut palm swing by the Maasin River and the Tayangban Cave Pool. Soon afterwards the street becomes a little curve, while it meanders down the mangrove bays to the port of Pilar. Go on and soon you will reach the Magpupungko Rock Pools. Here is a sign with the inscription "Magpupfungko White Beach".

What you can expect from Magpupfungko Rock Pools Siargao

As soon as you have arrived on the white sandy beach of Magpupungko, you should go to the left (north) side, where you can see the famous rock basin. There is a main pool in Magpupfungko that is actually divided into two parts. The average depth is about 2-3 meters.

These rock pools are a special type of blue. They are really beautiful and the dense scenes made of coconut palms provide some rather incredible scenes.

TIP: Visit the Rock Pools at low tide. At flood, the sea spills into the pool. Magic Seaweed is a good source to check the tides.

The big pool

The main rock pool at Magpupfungko Siargao is the first to find. This is the widest and you can swim comfortably, jump off the rocks and explore the coastal caves.

Below are some pictures that I took during my visit.

Cliff jumps (rocks)

Although not huge, it is one of the best things you can do in Magpupungko Rock Pools to jump from the big boulders. We had a lot of fun with it and also took some fun photos. Remember to always carry out a deep check when jumping on cliffs.

Smaller pools and the large boulder

When you walk about 30 meters around the headland, you will find some smaller pools and a huge, picturesque boulder on the edge of the coast.

Magpupfungko beach

The rock pools are not the only attraction on the beach of Magpupfungko. In fact, the beach itself is quite great. Here you will also find a few small local restaurants, which is great after a long day full of adventure.

However, if you come at low tide, you will find that the beach is quite rocky. I would say it is better to enjoy the pools at low tide and the beach at flood!
